Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Awww Oh, Snap! Quiz Retro Silly Whoa Yum
And by diamonds, we mean Aladdin. He might be called riff raff, have stolen lots of melon, and live in some sort of hubble about the marketplace, but he has a heart of gold. Actually, scratch that. He has a heart of diamond. You don’t have to take our word for it because the tiger that lives inside and/or becomes the Cave of Wonders totally thinks so too. Here’s why:
Vests are back in a big way and the fact Aladdin doesn’t seem to own a shirt only serves to highlight his great vest. What does this have to do with being a diamond in the rough? Well if he wasn’t “in the rough” as it were, he could probably have bought a shirt, which we’ve already established wouldn’t be great for us.
If he lived in a house, with a butler, we think that butler would have cut up his apple up for him and he never would have learned this sleight of hand that impresses Jasmine and shows off his fun-loving personality.
He only has a little bread, and we assume that he’s hungry, but Aladdin knows what it’s like to be alone without a home and so he shares what little he has. This is even better than the vest thing.
He is so endearingly awkward when he’s around Jasmine. It’s so freakin’ cute and makes us love him all the more. We’re guessing he didn’t go to cotillion and we approve.
If only people would look closer, they’d see that Aladdin has a ton of potential and is destined for great things. We knew this all along because Aladdin sings a song about it early on, and because Jafar’s sorcery told us so. But in all seriousness, Aladdin’s eagerness to better himself is something we can all identify with.
Though he wavers a bit there in the middle, Aladdin keeps his word to Genie and uses his last wish to set him free. This act of selfishness is the mark of a true friend, and makes him even more of a stand-up guy, if possible.
Need a cheap date idea? Nothing is cheaper, or more exhilarating, than traveling the world in one night on a magic carpet. It costs nothing, but the memories last forever. If this scene took place on a plane we feel like some of the magic would be lost. Also, Aladdin would be terrified because planes had not yet been invented.
Growing up on the rough streets of Agrabah really trained Aladdin to be tough and take care of himself. This comes in handy when he’s running from guards and fighting Jafar. If he wasn’t a bit rough around the edges, he wouldn’t have such a great right hook. A right hook that saves the day.
Similarly, Aladdin is able to make decisions quickly with limited information. His genius move to trick Jafar into becoming a genie is heroic and really smart (and saves us from having more nightmares about that scary snake Jafar briefly becomes).
