Maybe it's like, the invitation doesn't have to be spoken of something. Like, the message is already there. ..Or not, haha. There's a lot of problems with continuity in this show.

I'm rewatching the episode now, and she did invite him while she was in his office. Angel made a point of calling it an invitation.
