When Gwen is snatched from Camelot without warning, Merlin knows there can be only one person responsible: Morgana.

Arthur is determined to rescue his Queen – but it's not going to be easy, for she is locked in the Dark Tower, a place that haunts the dreams of men.

Arthur and his Knights must embark on a quest like no other, battling through a landscape riddled with hidden dangers, perilous obstacles and magical beings. As they near their goal, Merlin's sense of dread reaches breaking point. What twisted game is Morgana playing? And more importantly, just what is the final test that awaits them in the tower?

Colin Morgan is Merlin, Bradley James is Arthur, Angel Coulby is Gwen, Katie McGrath is Morgana, Richard Wilson is Gaius and John Hurt is the voice of the Great Dragon. Tom Hopper, Rupert Young, Eoin Macken and Adetomiwa Edun return as The Knights of the Round Table.

Well we knew it was coming. Gwen kidnapped by Morgana. juicy storyline for Angel, and pain in the ass/frustrating storyline for Gwen fans who will want to reach through our TV screens and strangle Morgana. A prolonged death is what I want for the witch. Hoping for some good scenes as an anxious Arthur searches for his queen.

Me too Lucerne! Kind of hoping that we'll see Arthur and Gwen on a horse together on the ride home, with his arms around her and all that jazz. I'm just going to try and look at this storyline positively and not pass judgement until I see the episode.

Actually why is that Merlin knows Gwen is gone and Arthur, her husband, doesn't? This show. But I will wait and see what the epi brings.

I know everyone is interested in how Arthur reacts to her disappearance, but I am more interested in how Gwen handles this with Morgana.

To be fair...I don't think the synopsis is saying Arthur doesn't know she's gone and Merlin does. It only says Merlin knows whose responsible.

Yes, the Gwen/Morgana interaction will be worth seeing. I think we're all just antsy about anything Arwen right now.

Me too kbrand but really I am soo Gwen deprived and since Arthur and his pain has been prominate from the start I guess that is why I want to see things from Gwen's point of view. But I know what you mean about Arwen though.

I'm really scared to have high hopes on this actually ... because it did say that arthur will embark on a perilous journey with his knights so my guess is almost half of the episode will be done with the boys. And the other half with arthur and merlin battling morgana. So ... the final few seconds might be the only ones saved for arwen and if they decide to edit that scene too ... i dont know. I just dont want to raise my hopes too high yet.

I'm so totally excited to see this! I want to see the Gwen/Morgana scenes, Arthur worrying over his wife and then him finally rescuing her and getting some A/G scenes!

@Stacey, yeah, I know. You already know that I have issues with the continued abuse of Gwen in this series. I'm not looking forward to this at all, sorry. I'm actually disturbed by some of the images that I saw of Morgana torturing Gwen and I would actually like for Gwen to save herself. I'd like to somehow gain the upper hand and wipe the floor with Morgana before walking out of whatever hell hole that she took her to. Then along the way, she can meet up with Arthur and then he can take her home. At this point this is the only way that I'll even be remotely okay with this episode.

I see your points Bonnie, but I think that you should wait and watch the episode before you judge it. I don't like seeing Gwen yet again being hurt, but for me I'm interested to see how Gwen handles herself (not just physically by trying to fight), but mentally because I know that Gwen is strong so I want to see how she handles it emotionally.

I'm actually not judging the episode, just the images that I've seen from it which I find to be disturbing. And quite frankly, I don't want Gwen to be dealing with the consquences of this abuse while Morgana gets off scott free. So I do want her to get her own back. We're gonna have to agree to disagree here because if Gwen is left emotinally scarred and is having to pick herself up again while Morgana skips off with no consequences, I'm going to be seriously pissed.

May it is the docility we dislike, the done to and not cut a bitch right back that we resent. Others who are clueless may well not understand this, this is their option. We are all entitled to our opinions. I am with you one hundred percent. Guinevere being used as catalyst for other's stories and never having her own in her own right with thought process other than to be ballast, as in her father's death when it became about the batshit crazy one instead of her own feelings on the matter is what we resent. You either get that or you don't as a human being. You need not defend your views, they are mature and accurate and anyone with one braincell will understand this.

Life and experience and maturity and growth is about the expression of feelings and thus far, the Queen has yet to be allowed said in a normal manner. Apparently, if you are neither Merls or Artiecakes this is not an option.

What is truly trying is that females, young impressionable females are being subliminally taught that their emotional well being is irrelevant. Again, you either get this or you don't. I am done with this discussion for now lol. I will watch and I will have my views and I don't much give a rat's botbot who says differently, this has been going on from day one.

Right, have to get the boys sorted cause tonight is SCANDAL.

@Stacey, I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. I'm not trying to cause trouble and you know if this storyline had happened before series 4, I'd more than likely be excited about it and be having all these shipper feels over the possiblity of Arthur rescuing Gwen. But this has now gotten to the point that I can't tolerate it anymore. It also doesn't help that a lot of the clients that I work with in real life are victims of abuse and it's so frustrating when I see them having to deal with the consequences of the abuse while the people who abused them are roaming around free and have suffered no consequences.

This show is becoming a constant reminder of that when it comes to Gwen. It shouldn't be so much to ask that these show runners act responsibly and not have horrific things happen to Gwen only to have her tormentors get off scott free. And also to actually explore these things from her point of view instead of focusing the episode on someone else.

Anyway, I'll try and be like you and stop with this discussion for now. I'm sure I'll have a lot to say when the episode actually airs.

@ bonnie bell, I find them disturbing too, but I'm hoping that we do get to see Gwen dealing with it and giving it back to Morgana. I agree that Morgana should not get away with it like she has in the past. My point is that I'm hoping that we do get to see Gwen's p.o.v of it and not just Arthur dealing with it and Morgana getting away with it. That is why I said that we should wait till the episodes airs. This isn't to say that your not entitled to judge the pictures and have feelings about them. I'm just one of those people that doesn't like to fully judge something before I see the episode, then I have a full understanding of what is happening. I know in the past Gwen has been used as a catalyst and then been sidelined and I hate that. But I still hope that they will handle this better than they have in the past. That and I know that Angel is a brilliant actor who will act her socks off. So yeah that is all I have to say about it.

@Epaws, I hope the clueless comment isn't directed at me. I do understand where Bonnie and others are coming from. The point I was trying to make is that we should wait till the episode airs and we have seen what happens till we completely judge it. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, however I like to make my opinions when I have the whole picture and understand each point of view before I make my own judgement. That is just how I am.

@ellarose: Lets just say that I'm jaded when it comes to this show. I honestly don't trust them to handle this well and they've never proven me wrong on that count so I have absolutely no faith in them right now. But like I said, my main problems right now are with the images/scenes that I've seen from the episode and if they are going to introduce those things in the episode, then they're going to have to pull out all the stops for me to fine with this episode. Because a simple Arthur rescues Gwen from Morgana's clutches storyline just isn't going to cut it for me.

Hi fellow fans,

I've being reading some of your posts & there are some really interesting points being made.(Which I won't comment on now only because I'm in a different time zone and can barely keep a thought in my head right now.)

I'm an Arwen fan too but then I'm a sucker for a romance. Love across classes, Lancelot and so on...

I hadn't given it too much thought but Gwen is an underused character and it would be nice too see her/Angel front and centre for a while. Instead of as a springboard for other stories and talents.

On a "feminist note" I agree with the poster (paraphrasing) that said that Gwen should hopefully hold her own with/against Morgana.

Generally, I think Arwen fans are most hard done by as they are probably a minority voice. I say this as an Arwen fan but the other ships in my opinion are much bigger and louder and have generally been recongised more by the actual cast members in interviews.

I don't think the creators were expecting the fans to react as strongly to "Arwen" and Angel's portrayal so they're almost winging it. That been said I did see at least one "cut" scene that shows Arthur's depth of feeling for Gwen. In the end I think those scenes that get cut come down to a matter of time and the bigger ships.

April :)

Interesting thought, April, re the creators not expecting the reaction. Of course, that just further goes to show their stupidity and short-sightedness, but what do I know, right?

And if you are new to us, welcome!

No wonder in interviews poor Angel voices how happy she is re the direction of her character and Arthur's relationship are going. The fans however are wondering, what relationship. Three episodes in and they have barely spend time in the same room. Now we realize that the scenes Angel are talking about has been left on the cutting floor.

Welcome, April. Yes, I don't think that they were expecting people to react this strongly. And after the strong reaction, they seemed to be running around trying to appease people by talking more about Angel on their twitter page; as if that would make up for cutting out her scenes.

That being said, I don't think that Arwen is a minority ship nor has it been less recognized by the actual cast. Just this summer, the producers were promising us all kinds of things re: Arwen in every interview that they had (which is probably what has set some of us up for disappointment). Every comic con or other cast interview, the relationship is brought up and discussed. Again all summer long, Angel, Bradley and even Colin had interviews where quite a bit of time was spent discussing Arwen. They've all talked about how much stronger the relationship is, how Gwen is Arthur's confidant, and how she's going to have more scenes with Merlin and Arthur together. So far we haven't really seen any of that.

These show runners seem determined to appease Merthur fans which if you look at the ratings of the show actually isn't helping them. People forget that internet fans are actually the minority of viewers for t.v. shows. Most people who watch shows don't go on the internet and join fandoms. They casually watch the show and when it ends they go about their regular day. I think the show runners are not considering this which is why they keep pushing for Merthur only episodes which don't actually do as well as the episodes that we would label as Arwen episodes or the ones where all four members of the main cast are used. Even "Lamia" the episode which focused on Merlin, Gwen and the knights did better than "Aithusa" which was a Merthur/bros only, queerbaiting, Merlin pulls Arthur's pants off episode. They need to start paying attention to facts and figures and not who's making the loudest noise.

I felt the need to point out that the producers made it clear that they wanted A/G to be rooted for before series 2 aired so it's not like it wasn't ever important to them. A/G have had quality scenes (more due to Angel and Bradley's acting than the writing) so quantity is never something really important. For example A/M have a lot of scenes together but a lot of the time I feel that they are the same, yet A/G have performed some of my favourite moments on the show.

As to Arwen fans not bring vocal, that isn't true. We are and the ratings don't lie. The issue it seems to be that the producers are trying to appease the Mearthur fans at the expense of Gwen and A/G. That being said, the synopsis for 5x06 seems to suggest to be about A/G so I have a feeling we will hopefully get an episode filled with great Gwen scenes and A/G.

Hi,

You're all very kind thank you for the welcomes I'm an old user returning (before my previous post I hadn't written anything in a year.)

I never understood how fans almost immediately know who to ship generally. Random thought.

@ Bonne-Bell, I have to admit that I've rarely read any (current) interviews with the cast and I'm pretty sure I've never read the official Merlin twitter page. As for Comic-Con I never watch the panels-I just hunt out the trailers. On the + side I find it very encouraging that the cast has talked about Arwen maybe then they really will be more prominent in future episodes.
I hadn't thought about that either but you make an excellent point Merthur episodes really do fall short. Brilliant example too. I actually thought "Aitusa" was quite boring but obviously that's jmo.

@ ellarose88 I stand corrected you're right! :)

However with regard too paragraph 2. I didn't write that Arwen fans weren't vocal only that they weren't as loud as other ships and I stand by that. However, I'm also not faulting it either! I simply think we have less fans. Too your point about quality vs quantity I'd argue that one reason the Arwen ship is smaller is because fans have less material to work with. Like you I hope we get a good A/G episode :)
