I can't simply accept 'he's just evil' as a reason. I want more character depth than that. Voldemort had character development and he's one of the best villains out there. As a main villain in Avatar, Ozai having a back story would make him more complete. In my eyes, there's a huge gap in Ozai's character that I can't ignore. They say that Zuko mirrors a younger Ozai, so maybe Ozai was like Zuko when he was younger. Hotheaded, wanting his father's acceptence, etc. But maybe Ozai didn't have someone to guide him like Zuko did. They say if Ursa and Iroh weren't there, Zuko could have ended up like Ozai.

I just think he's incomplete.

I want to know more about him! People say he is pure evil even though we know very, very little about his past or his relationship with his parents, brother or Ursa.
Unfortunately, I don't think LoKorra will reveal much about him. He will be long gone by then and if there are flashbacks, they will probably focus more on the Gaang rather than their parents because of a limited time and limited number of episodes to fit Korra's story and more of the original Team Avatar's.
I might be wrong and I truely hope I am.
The pictures show just how much he changed. He had to be at least a semi-ish okay guy at one point in his life.

Late comment, but I personally hate him, as he certainly did not help azulas already fragile self esteem. I actually think that he is more responsible for what happened to her than ursa. I can c y u guys would wanna know his backstory, but it doesn't change the fact that he did cause Azula to become the way she was. On the same note, maybe something happened to him to make him the way he was, but being the raging Azula fan that I am, it doesn't make all that much difference. I honestly can't see how his childhood could have been any worse than hers. Or rather, the one he forced upon her.

I think he needs one.
