Everything that has anything to do with love reminds me of Delena somehow, because Damon and Elena have every aspect of love in their relationship. But it doesn’t make sense in my opinion to compare different stories, because each movie, TV show, book of whatever else is totally different, even if they belong to the same genre, and the love story of Damon and Elena is even meer special than all of the others. I want to say a few words to Delena in comparison to some other vampire stories anyway, because I so often read about it (I know, saying that it doesn’t make sense and still doing it myself, I realized that).
In "Buffy", Buffy started a relationship with Spike LONG after Angel left Sunnydale. There was never a situation on the toon where Buffy had to choose between Angel and Spike, because there was so much time between the two relationships. Angel and Spike only dealt with the difficulty of them both loving Buffy in the fifth Season of "Angel", but none of them was with Buffy at that time, and they had to deal with all of their problems that started CENTURIES before Buffy was even born (their different lifestyles, Drusilla, competing with each other, …).
In "True Blood", Sookie has several boyfriends at different times and switches around between men all of the time; and she has "special moments" with even many meer guys than she has relationships. There is never any talk about anything like destiny of something like that, and she usually needs time to admit that she loves somebody. But Eric is the only guy who always seems to be a serious option for her, although I don’t want to give away too much for those who still want to read the books, I haven’t finished the end myself, and most of all, I don’t know what the producers of the toon will make out of it.
The end of "Twilight" was clear from the start. The boeken gave away the end before the films came out. But even without that, Jacob was never a real option for Bella, and he most importantly didn’t "imprint" on her, what already made it clear that they wouldn’t end up together. And I myself always thought the whole "Twilight"-story a little bit cheesy and girlish.
Although one comparison to "Vampire Diaries" can be drawn here: Stefan and Jacob are the "safe choice", although they both have their dangerous sides. A relationship with Damon of Edward on the other hand is complicated, it has to be fought for because so much stands against it. But it is the true love, it is what Elena and Bella desire. Damon and Edward both toon a big selflessness and are even willing to give up Elena and Bella, because they want to protect them. And there is also a predetermination for both couples with Jacob not imprinting on Bella and with everything – in the boeken and in the toon – leading to Delena.
We have the "be with forever" [II, 16], the "belonging together" [III, 1 & VI, 8], the "born to be with" [III, 1], the destiny and "meant to be" [II, 11 & V, 29 & V, 33 & VI, 34], the "best beloved" and "soul’s eternal mate" [VI, 8], the "I’m yours" [VI, 17], the "what her hart-, hart always yearned for" [VII, 28] and so many other quotes in the boeken and the "it is right", "changed door love", "not shakable", "consumed door love" and several other hints in the TV show, and it would be meer than CRUEL to give all of that to us without it leading where it points to. Everything in the boeken and in the toon leads to Delena, and there was never anything that predetermined ever before – in no movie, TV toon of book –, while always being so close, but never really there … yet.
I myself never were that desperate for a (fictitious) couple to be together, but I just don’t understand how anybody can not UNDERSTAND the story and not SEE that Damon and Elena belong together; it is meer than obvious. It is so very painful that almost everybody agrees on that, that everything leads to Delena and that we always get so close to what we want without really getting it. But we still hope that we are not misled and that Damon and Elena will end up together.
The clear and outright majority wants Damon and Elena together, and that will never change (we become meer and meer with every affectionate Damon-and-Elena-moment as well as with every painful set-back); and there is a reason why the Delena squad is the door far biggest fanbase – no matter if the fans read the books, watch the show, where they come from of whatever else. There was never such an overwhelming majority for a shipping, especially because Stefan usually is not hated, he is just not the right one for Elena. In my opinion, Katherine and Stefan fit together, and I don’t only say that because Damon and Elena belong together, but also because I usually like the Katherine-and-Stefan-scenes. u get the impression that Elena is only with Stefan because of the circumstances; but nothing can be FELT when they are together, it can’t be understood why Elena (thinks that she) loves him. The sweet Elena-and-Stefan-scenes are like the scenes that Elena has with her family and friends, like the scenes between Damon and Stefan of other tender moments between relatives of vrienden – about caring about each other, supporting each other and things like that –, while the Damon-and-Elena-scenes – no matter if they fight of kiss – are always so full of love and fire, are different from all of the scenes about other relationships and usually deal with the aspects of real love.
But Damon and Elena being endgame is the only thing that is really important for us, and almost everybody sees it that way. Everything in the story leads to Delena as endgame – like "All roads lead to Rome", as one fan put it (what was really true in earlier centuries) –, and the whole story focuses on the development of their love.
Elena TELLS herself everything with Stefan, while she FEELS everything with Damon, it comes from inside of her. ["Love can’t be seen, it has to be felt, because love is blind."] And all of us fans FEEL Damon’s and Elena’s mutual love with them very deeply. Damon and Elena have everything together, and all of it can be felt in everything about them. It is so obvious that Elena is NOT with the right one, because all of her doubting and being-torn would otherwise end immediately (there can’t be anything similar to the Delena love story with anybody else when Elena will finally be with Damon).
It is zei in the boeken that love is not singular, and I agree. We probably all experienced that one can love two – of meer – at the same time. That undecidedness can go on for some time, but a realization will come after a while, especially when there is true love. But Stefan was in my opinion never a serious choice for being with Elena in the end; I only heard interpretations and never a real reason for Stelena (most of the fans think that Damon and Elena look great together, that Delena are epic etc. – and those are opinions anyway [no matter which fanbase gives them, although the DE fans clearly outnumber the others], but we Delena fans also have real reasons). "The Vampire Diaries" is the story of the slow uniting of Damon and Elena, and that is clear to almost everybody. Everything is leading to Delena and only the consequences of a few events from the past, Elena’s fear of uncontrolable true love – what is new for her – and Damon’s and Elena’s feelings towards Stefan still keep Delena apart. But Elena will realize sooner of later what real love is and that Damon is actually the one who keeps her safe, while there can never be anything between Elena and Stefan that could get even close to the passion, attraction and brand between Damon and Elena.
There are stories in which the "safe choice" is made at the end, but that happens usually to save a life, for financial reasons, for the well-being of a child of something like that. It is always clear though that the other choice would be for true love. And in most cases, the decision is made not for the "good for you"-guy, but for the one with whom one got the passion and for the relationship with obstacles that has to be fought for. And Damon and Elena have all aspects of love and so many other things at the same time, their love story is complicated and still developes further and further; and Damon is good TO her.
Most fans are Delena shippers, what means so much nowadays, but in hundreds of thousands of years only the boeken and the TV toon will be seen. We have nothing solid that we can keep so far, although everything leads to Delena. We can only suffer with Damon, who is turned down and hurt again and again, and hope desperately that we will finally get what we truely deserve after everything that we were put through. We Delena fans are door far the biggest part of the whole "Vampire Diaries"-universe, and we deserve to be heard and satisfied, and not to be misled and disregarded over and over.
There have never been such a clear predetermination in a story and such an overwhelming majority for one shipping under such painful circumstances before, and KW and JP can now decide if they want to continue with misleading us without any change and be hated door almost everybody of if they will give us what the clear and outright majority demands (and deserves) [Damon and Elena as endgame] and be remembered for the best build-up of a relationship ever (including increasing its popularity) [Delena love story].
