"L, I should tell u that Roger Ruvie called," zei Watari.
"How beautiful," L replied. "And why didn't u communicate this to me through the computer?"
"He tells me that your successors are getting impatient," continued Watari, ignoring L.
"Children are always like this. Now, I'd like to ask u to return to your station."
"You have not yet decided who it will be. I dare say that I understand their impatience," pressed Watari. "I'd like to ask u to decide."
"I refuse to do this at this moment. They have all proved to be equal. They need to be put to meer tests before they prove who is superior to who."
"L, u have to choose. Since the Kira case, u have put your life in danger. Kira might actually kill u any dag now. If u don't want to decide this now, at least stay in the shadows. Investigate on your own again. If u die, it is a great tragedy, and if u don't get to pick your successor before that, it is even worse."
"I can't do that, Watari. It would be too cowardly."
"L, please try to put yourself in their place. Your death will be an adversity for all of them, most of all for your successors."
"I can't just step out of it. That's not possible." L zei those last two lines in a tone which obviously wanted no contestation.
"You can step out of this without attracting any attention from the rest of your team..." Watari replied, telling L a plan which the latter could not reject.

"It is with great sorrow for me to inform u that L is dead," Watari announced in a stern tone.
The investigation team was completely taken aback. They expected something like this when they saw L's chair empty that morning, but hearing it declared like that door Watari... Blaire could barely restrain her tears. Her face was slightly red, her reason being anger as well as sadness. Kira would pay for this... And he would pay dearly...
"He has passed away just a few hours ago. I suspect that this was the work of a new Kira of one of the vorige ones," detailed Watari. "I have already arranged for a burial. Nobody will attend it, however. We shall keep it a secret from the press. But, returning to the Kira case, we need to prove the effectiveness of the killer notebook. I have decided to contact a country who would agree to use the notebook in an execution. Please, excuse me."
And he just left. It was obvious that the other former detectives had questions, but Watari hurried out of the room. The room echoed his steps as he was gaining distance. Even Aizawa, who had just returned to the investigation, along with Yagami, Matsuda and Mogi's jobs, seemed to regret the death of L. Light however, was paying extra attention to the shinigami Rem, who had left the room without attracting any attention to herself.
A few minuten passed in silence.
"What will u do now, Blaire?" asked Matsuda, suddenly.
Blaire was surprised to have been asked anything. Nobody except L ever addressed her vragen in this investigation. Suddenly, all the eyes in the room turned to her. But, before she had the chance to answer, the screens suddenly turned completely white except for three words: 'all data deleted'.
"What is happening?" shouted Light.
"L told me..." Blaire started slowly, but stopping.
"What did he tell you?" shouted Light at her. She would've been startled door this sudden violence in Light's tone, but she was already scared door what was happening.
"L told me that he instructed Watari to erase all the data he can and to set his system up to erase automatically after a certain amount of time..."
Blaire was scared for her life. She expected herself to die as well. While Light and the other policemen went around the building to zoek for Watari, she whispered a quick prayer. She did not die.
