L did have his cold and cruel side, when it came to cracking down on cases. However, deep down, I think it was clear that he was, or at least meant to be, a kind person, which comes along with his general complexity, as a character. He knew this; he knew that there was a sense where the lonely ones who might be pulled into the "game" could be drained. L even thought of himself as a monster, and it is true that he has his similarities with Kira. Sometimes Wammy's house brings an image of Mello, Near, and Matt clawing at L's heart, as L spits out a dark substance and envelops them in it to my mind. Other times, I'll think of a statue where L and Light are a two-headed person, smiling emptily as L's successors try to unchain themselves to the statue, and reach for a light above them. My sympathy will, eventually, come back to L. Finding his true kind side was part of his development, by working with various and different others, and he was getting around to it.... really, just a double-edged sword, in so many ways... His successors, it seemed were forced to throw aside their emotions and true personalities, for what was "truly important"... I can never bring myself to feel angry at L for this, though, because it seems that being with children is what helps him find his more accurate self. L did have a sense of justice, even if he did take part in many cases based on his personal interest. He could, at least, distinguish that Kira was wrong. He needed to meet the right kind of person, is all. :(

However, I feel that Matsuda runs on kindness and bravery. Even if it is, sometimes, out of his will to prove his competence to others, he wants to do what is right, despite any consequences or foul fate.

They're both sweet, in my opinion. =)

Tough choice; they're both kind people. That's the main reason I like them.
