Why aren't Esmeralda and Megara Disney Princesses

Disney Heriones

The two most populair Disney women outside of the DP franchise. These two exotic beauties are definitely fan favorieten when it comes to Animated Heriones, so why aren't they apart of the official line-up? The main reason people complain about Mulan being an official princess is that she gets recognized when these two ladies don't. Even though Megara is closer to royalty than her and Esmeralda is pretty much equal to Mulan. So basically I'm going to do the same thing I did with Merida. Look at the Pros and Cons of adding Esmeralda and Megara to the line-up. The only difference is, Merida still has a chance to be a Disney Princess. For these two that ship as sailed, but at least they get to be in merchandise every once in a while. You'll also notice that I'm alittle meer detailed in this article, fully explaining my points. Let's get started.

Hopeless Romantic

Reasons Why
-Esmeralda's Spanish and Megara's Greek, adding alot meer diversity to the line-up.
-Megara ends up with Hercules, the son of a God. She may not be a princess but she is royalty.
-Both girls sing in their films, God Help The Outcasts and I Won't Say I'm In Love are both populair songs.
-Both women are great role models for young girls to look up to.
-Megara is role model for young ladies in that she refuses to be a damsel in distress
-Esmeralda is a good role model for people as whole. She wants to put an end to prejudice.

Gypsy and Activist

Reasons Why Not
-Both of their films are failures door Disney's standards. They didn't do terrible door any means but in comparison to The Lion King and Aladdin it's pretty bad.
-Neither of them are the main character in their movies. Let's be honest here, jasmijn just got lucky because her film earned alot of money.
-Esmeralda's movie is rather dark, mature and not very suitable for a franchise for little girls.
-Megara's design is completely outta whack compared to the other princesses.

Dynamic Duo

Personally, I really want these two to be offiicial Disney Princesses and it really bothers me that they're not. With all the other heriones, like Jane, Alice, Kida, Nala, Lilo, it's easy to see why they're not apart of DP. But with Megara and Esmeralda, it's harder pinpoint why because they fit the criteria so well. They sing, they fall in love and they're from different cultures. I truly don't understand why Disney won't acknowledge these strong and beautiful ladies. I love Esmeralda's sex appeal and I love Megara's deadpan snarker attitude. Maybe one dag Disney will see the errors of their ways. For now, I'm comfortable with the official line up but it could be much better with these two action girls.

Pikatogeon16 here's why: A. They aren't princesses B: The story is not about them (that's why Mulan, who didn't marry a prince,is a princess because shes the main character.) C. Neither one of their movies were very successful, not even vault worthy, I'm sure someday they will be but that day is not today D. Esmeralda is a character with high religious perspectives which is the riskiest characteristic you can have on a princess Sorry. But never say never

Jessikaroo I'd rather have Disney create the heroine line-up for Esmeralda, Meg, Jane, Alice, Kida, Lilo and whoever else I forgot. I know lots of kids who'd prefer the heroine's to the princesses, and you're right Esme and Meg are fan favourites. And having their own line-up would mean you could actually find merchandise! :o My dream shall live on... Good article though :) EDIT: I don't think the whole religious thin is a very good argument against Esmeralda being in the line-up, Snow White was seen praying in her movie.

alldisfan It can be argued that they're not the protagonists but if you know the real story of The Hunchback of Notre Dame you know that Esmerelda is actually the main character. Disney changed the focus. Also Esmerelda is not Spanish. Indian is closer though I believe "gyspy" is derived from the mistaken identification with Egyptians. I love Esmerelda (Megara-not so much) but a princess she is not. She didn't even get with the main character (which is closer to what actually happened in the book-arguably). Why should she matter so much? And more than Kida? Not in my book. You stated your point well though and that is all that matters.

TigerRanma One can't say that Esmeralda is Spanish. It's never confirmed that she is. If she really is a Gypsy, she would be considered Romani, whose ancestors are Indian. Hell, in the book, she's not even born a gypsy; she's a French girl adopted by gypsies. Other than that, I think you made a good article about why Esmeralda and Meg are not in the Disney Princess lineup.

JNTA1234 Well I read somewhere that the original character is Spanish, I think it was Wikipedia, I'm not sure. Plus she's played by Salma Hayek in another adaption. Esmeralda's ethnicity always confused me. Anyways, Thanks For Reading :)

TigerRanma No. In the original story, Esmeralda was a French girl named Agnes who was adopted by Gypsies. In the Disney version, they actually made her a Gypsy, meaning she is Romani. That race's ancestry originates from India.

QueenElsa123 Megara actually is a princess because she was the oldest daughter of Creon, the King of Thebes in Greek mythology. So really Megara should be an official Disney princess.

greenfox411 Esmeralda should be a disney princess. I think just on the basis that in Once upon a princess she is adopted by Clopin who is considered the leader of the gypsies and in the books even called the King of Truands/King of the Gypsies. In many adaptions of the story Esmeralda is considered Queen of the Gypsies.

J3rs3yG1rl First off, saying they aren't in the Princess line up is a cop out because Mulan isn't one either. In fact, Disney even referenced Esmeralda as being Queen of the Gypsies. Being Clopin's heir in a way, she is royalty by that. She doesn't have to have nobility. Clopin is the leader/King of their people. Therefore, when she was taken under his wing, she became the equivalent to a Princess among her people. Also, the movie wasn't a failure. It's ignored by the company because of a grudge against former CEO Michael Eisner who's favorite film happened to be Hunchback.

I love imagining DP and their fashion, the kind of jewelry they may wear, the kind of parties they'd have. I have done a couple of these before for wedding themes and jewelry. This artikel mainly talks about their signature fashion style.

Snow White:
I think midi-length, flared skirts will suit her chirpy and joyful personality. She's the kind who'd want to keep her dresses simple yet playful and have a bit of color palette to explore in her wardrobe. Short gloves will also look lovely on her. Maybe i some dag , time geleden was guilty of calling some of the princesses "bad role models" , i was wrong, i realized that the fact that i don't like a character of don't agree with, them doesn't mean they are bad role models.

To be fair,i find some people saying "Princess are a bad role model for girls because "insert princess name and reasons here" . But i don't see anyone saying a freaking thing about the disney male characters . I did an artikel in the Disney club

My first impression on Serena (no, not her namesake Frozen costar, Serena Autieri) is that she sounds a bit like Kristen Bell. But, one thing is that her voice is slightly deeper than Kristen and globaal, algemene good job! (Ratings: 9.5/10)

Rapunzel's Birthday

So Rapunzel had a great beginning. "A single drop of sunlight" fell to the ground and created a bloem (?) that "had the ability to heal the sick and injured." Then because the queen was dying, the bloem was mashed up and gegeven as soep to the queen who got well again. And the magic affected her baby. The magic golden bloem caused the newborn to be born with a head full of hair, and already extremely active.

Wait, what?

Did Gothel take her right after she was born? Isn't that dangerous? Shouldn't Rapunzel be with her mother, be nurtured door her and everything. Like, come on, at least wait until...

1) The design (including layout and color scheme)
2) Intrigue (the strategy involved in "selling" the film, of influencing moviegoers to see it; includes the design, tagline, and impression)
3) Reflection of the film (how accurate of a representation the poster is of the movie it's advertising)

1) Fairytale

The 3 classic princesses will definitely love this song, as the titel says it all. The muziek is very soothing and yet at the same time mesmerizing!

2) Wild Child

Ariel and jasmijn are considered fiercely independent, so this song suits their spunky background!

3) Anywhere Is

Belle wants adventure, so this energetic song suits her. Especially during the 'Belle Reprise' scene!

So, this song has been covered door a few artists, like Lucy Hale door turning it into a country version. Then, another Disney ster sang it, it is none other than Lea Salonga herself! Are u ready for a battle between Team Salonga and Team Menzel? Here we go!

Idina Menzel

While I enjoy her version, she's a bit pitchy in certain parts. Although at some parts she's very emotional and I like that, because she's very ominous like Elsa and I'm glad that I like her version.

Lea Salonga

Many of u know that she was the singing voice of Mulan and Jasmine, when I heard her version. I thought that she sounds even better than Idina! I would not actually mind her voicing Elsa anyway.
But I guess that they don't want Elsa to sound like jasmijn and Mulan!

Conclusion

While both of them are good singers, I would say that Lea is the best singer out of these two!
