Disney Princess Article: Defense of Ariel

I have been inspired door seeing artikels that defend Ariel on Fanpop so I thought I would write my own.

Ariel also gets a lot of flack and it drives me insane! People say Ariel is anti-feminist because she gives up her voice to be with Eric. She always wanted to be human. At the beginning of the film she was collecting artifacts of the human world. Do u think she was collecting artifacts because of Eric? The song Part of Your World, she wasn't even singing about Eric. Her fascination with humans is what lead her to become interested in Eric. If it wasn't her fascination with humans, she wouldn't have known who Eric was.

If King Triton didn't destroy Ariel's treasures, she would not have gone to see Ursula. I think the reason Ariel saw Ursula was due to the fact King Triton destroyed her treasures, as I mentioned earlier, if Triton didn't destroy her treasures, Ariel would have most likely not have gone to see Ursula. I'm tired of people putting all the blame on the movie on Ariel when some of it was Triton's fault. While some of it was Ariel's fault, not all of it was. I don't Ariel giving up her voice makes her weak, I think it makes her meer real & relatable. Sometimes u have to sacrifice things to get what u want. Ariel was the 1st Disney princess to have flaws. I don't understand why feminist still attack Ariel when she is active in her story. I don't think Ariel is anti-feminist. Giving up her voice was not a wise decision but u can't completely blame her for going to Ursula after what her father did. How would u feel if your father destroyed the things u loved?

Bottom line: Ariel isn't as anti-feminist as people say she is.

wavesurf I agree wholeheartedly with your reasoning! I do think some users on here know that Ariel loved the human world and wanted to be a human, LONG BEFORE she met/even knew who Eric was. Like you said, Ariel's fascination with being a human was not a split-moment decision. Ariel had had this desire for a long time. And Triton made Ariel kind of an outcast, because her views differed from his.

reflection11 Great article. I agree that Ariel isn't half as bad as some people make her out to be. I adore ariel, she's my second favorite, so it's nice to see some love for her. I disagree that she is the first princess with flaws though. Overall nice job!!

Coolsinger198 and I both had the same idea ironically to write a fairy artikel to the relations of the fairies to the princesses. But sadly her artikel had trouble posting, so I want to give her some credit for this since she had the same idea as me.

I watched Tinker Bell: The Pirate Fairy not too long geleden and I absolutely loved it, especially Baby Tic Toc. To start Mary-Sue is thrown around not only on the Disney Princess club, but almost everywhere whenever it comes down to the Disney Princesses. The correct definition to Mary-Sue is a perfect female character who doesn't try to be perfect, but naturally is. Like a Renaissance Man, yet doesn't fail at least while trying.
Some have been saying Classics, of Walt Disney's princesses, Belle and Rapunzel are Mary-Sues, plus more. I very much disagree.

Why Merida Needs meer Love

As I was creating my iconen for Team Merida, I realised exactly why I loved this girl. As a result, I decided to write an artikel with 5 reasons why everybody should love Merida/Brave

1. Brave was the first Pixar film that had a female protagonist.

Pixar is a hugely successful company, but it took about 8 years since they first started making films for them to make a movie where the main character was a girl. Before Brave was made, I was slightly annoyed at Pixar - most of it's films didn't even pass the Bechdel test. I love Brave because it finally featured an awesome female character.
