And I really want to see this happen. I'm fine with love interest, but I think this would be really unique for a DP film, and I want to see it happen.
Moreover, boys watching these movies need better role models as of late, so I also think they could make her male friend a classic, brave "hero" type of character, while not making him in love with the protagonist. That would be groundbreaking.
I don't see why so many people (not saying any of you, just what I've noticed) act so offended over a woman having a love interest- if it's a man, anyway. they sure don't care if it's another woman. But women getting a guy is seen as insulting but nobody cares if a man gets a girlfriend.
I'm so sick of Hollywood enforcing this idea that two people of the opposite gender HAVE to end up romantically involved. They can't keep retelling the same story, but by now it feels tired and worn out at best, contrived at worst. It's like, "She HAS to end up with a dude, so let's find some reason for them to get together by the end." Anna and Kristoff come to mind.
I'm so done. I want a male and a female character who care about each other who do NOT end up as an item.
Besides, ever since the failures of Rapunzel/Flynn and Kristanna, Disney just doesn't do good romances anymore (not that they were ever perfect but...). I'd rather no romance than something bland or creepy.
