She promises everlasting submission to Mother Gothel in return for the chance to save Eugene's life. And earlier on, when she and Eugene are trapped in the underwater cave, she apologizes to him instead of wailing about her predicament - she only thinks about how her actions will affect others.
Rapunzel does want to see the lanterns, But above this, she aches for freedom (which is a basic human right).
Anna wants freedom, too. And above this she wants love, having been deprived of any visible affection for most of her life. This causes her to want to immediately get married to Hans (not caring at all about how this could affect others, as she knows next to nothing about him). When she goes after Elsa, she leaves the entire kingdom to Hans (again, not caring about the potential consequences). Then she saves Elsa by jumping in front of Hans' sword. My likely controversial opinion: that was, like all of her other actions in the movie, impulse. I voted for her because she just confuses me so much.
Anna never thought about consequences of marrying Hans, leaving the kingdom to Hans. Anna did care for Elsa a lot more than she ever did for herself, but compared to Rapunzel, Anna also acted more on selfish needs more.
You do make good points but in my opinion, Rapunzel was only selfless towards Gothel, while Annabwas selfless towards everyone.
Rapunzel:
Outside tower: Worries about Gothel's emotional welfare and has a breakdown.
Underwater: More concerned that her actions have affected Eugene than that they have herself.
Campfire: Tells Eugene she's "still going back" (even though Gothel lied about everything).
In Tower: Vows to never again resist Gothel to save Eugene (even though she'll never see him again anyway since she'll be shut away for the rest of her life).
Above all, wants freedom (basic human right)
Anna:
Tries to promptly marry Hans: fails to heed Elsa's advice, ignores potential for marriage to adversely impact others.
Leaves entire kingdom to Hans: lack of thorough concern for Arendelle
Pursues Elsa (no warm clothes on: likely unaware of true danger of wilderness, keeping this from being truly selfless).
Raises hand to stop sword from hitting Elsa (Pure impulse? Did Anna, ever the optimist, anticipate that Hans could have actually killed her? Can't tell; happened too fast)
Point one: I agree with this point, as I stated before it was selfless of her.
Point two: Well Rapunzel did give him a frying pan and helped him fight before hand but I think this was more of her needing him as a guide. Underwater, she says she's sorry but that's it. So she admits she made a mistake. So did the other three princesses at some point.
Point three: She tells Eugene she is thinking of going back, even admitting she was scared to leave her tower in the first place. This is five minutes before she tells Gothel she won't go back because she was wrong, and she only does go back because she thought Eugene betrayed her.
Point four: As someone said in a previous round, I don't really consider this selfless, because I don't think Rapunzel thought she had a chance of escaping anyways. She did try to help Eugene, which did require thought, but it didn't exactly require putting herself first.
Point five: I agree. This was selfish of Anna.
Point six: This is more out of naivity than selfishness. She was actually pretty thoughtful to leave the kingdom to someone, but it's not really selfishness because she thought she could trust Hans. It was stupid of her to trust Hans, but stupidity does NOT always equal selfishness.
Point seven: I honestly don't see how this would be considered less selfless because she didn't put on warm clothes. Again naivity doesn't equal selfishness this time. Selflessness is putting others needs and wants before your own, in this case Anna did. She was naive, but she thought of others freezing in the winter, before she thought of her own survival. So, I guess, I don't see your point?
Point eight: Impulse or not it's still selfless. If it was an impulse, her love of her sister would have been what drove her to do it. I mean she wouldn't have thawed if it wasn't because "an act of true love will thaw a frozen heart". But, that being said, Olaf had also said, that love is putting someone else's needs before your own which matches up with the selfless definition (not just mine, also look it up in any dictionary). Olaf's line was supposed to foreshadow Anna's sacrifice, so therefore it was an act of selflessness.
I think I made my point. *nods*. (Just so you know I would vote for Anna after Rapunzel though because I think Belle and Mulan's acts are more selfless.
