I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Ellie Kendrick on the populair Meera-Jon theory and Tom Wlaschiha talks Jaqen | Watchers on the uithangbord | A Game of Thrones Community for Breaking News, Casting, and Commentary
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
recently spoke with Ellie Kendrick, who we now know is set to return as Meera Reed in
season 6. During the interview, Ellie was aked about her own thoughts on the theory that Meera and Jon Snow are curly-haired siblings:
I genuinely don’t have any idea as we don’t get told anything! But, I don’t know. I think people might just be thinking that because we’ve both got curly hair. In the books, our characters are described quite differently.
Continuing, she seemed skeptical that such a twist would hold up in the intricate narrative that George R.R. Martin has woven.
Hey, I’d love it to be true because it would mean great things for my character, but I’m holding back on speculation for now. I think what’s been going on in George RR Martin’s brain is so much more a complex wormhole than we could possibly imagine. I think there’s definitely a mystery to Meera and Jojen and their parentage, but I think it’ll unwind itself eventually.
I can only dream. To be honest, I don’t think Meera would be all that good on the Iron Throne! She’s a little bit of a socialist at heart, I don’t think she’ll be able to rule with the iron fist that the throne requires.
When April 24th rolls around, I suppose we may find out whether or not this outlandish theory holds any truth, and if Ellie’s hair had anything to do with her casting.
about the show. While he revealed nothing specific about the upcoming season, he did have the following to say about his approach to playing Jaqen H’ghar (apologies for the rough Google translation/paraphrasing):
Personally, I think you may not be smarter than the writer as an actor. You play what is written for you – no more and no less. The overall picture of the character grows in the viewer’s mind – Jaqen H’ghar’s especially due to his enigmatic nature. On the one hand he is a ruthless killer, and on the other he’s a likeable figure. It’s fun to play someone so ambivalent. The background of the character, for me, is not important at all. I leave the hardcore fans on the Internet to develop their own theories.

No. These are the tinfoil theories people come up with because there is too much time between books. It rubbish I say
I was especially intrigued by this quote “I think there’s definitely a mystery to Meera and Jojen and their parentage, but I think it’ll unwind itself eventually.”
Beyond wanting to see Howland Reed, I want to find out exactly what impact the crannogmen will have on the wars to come. I’d think their connection with the CotF and their oaths to the Starks, made long, long ago, have to come into play at some point. They seem, at least in my mind, to have some connection to what’s happening north of the Wall. I don’t think it coincidence, nor necessarily just tied in with Ned and Howland’s past that Jojen and Meera are the ones to lead Bran to BR.
Something to read “into” from Queen Margery…

I’m trying to remember from the books – we obviously know Howland Reed is their father, but is it mentioned who he married/who their mother is? (aside from the Jon/Meera twin theory, that is, which by the way I think is rubbish).
I love Ellie’s interviews. She seems so smart and intelligent.
Me too. Meera and Jojen look so different from each other on the show, and I think the casting was not just a coincidence. I feel that their mother was not a simple crannogwoman.
Could the creator of the theory please explain how come the offspring of a Stark and a Targaryen looks like a crannogwoman?
*Insert Professor Farnsworth “I don’t want to live on this planet anymore” meme.*
Don’t get me wrong I love a good tinfoil, but my thoughts on
one have been summed up pretty perfectly by Kendrick herself: “I think people might just be thinking that because we’ve both got curly hair.”
Yep, tin-foil can be fun, but there’s tin-foil and then there’s heavy duty tin-foil made into a hat with antennae you put on yourself and your cat. I think the Jon and Meera are brother an sister falls into the latter.
Having a problem picturing “heavy duty tin-foil made into a hat with antennae you put on yourself and your cat???”
I’m also not into this particular theory, but very interested to eventually meet Howland Reed and what he knows. The Reeds may be central to everything, after all, they swear it by Ice and Fire 😉
Tom is such a frickin’ hottie. Jaqen’s character is the most clothes I’ve ever seen him in. O_o
Hahah, something tells me the cat isn’t quite as keen on the theory as the guy is

She also commented recently about the Jon Snow HBO poster on a night talk show (I think it was Jimmy Kimmel?) that “That poster does give the game away a bit, doesn’t it?”
There’s about two things interesting in that article.. and it isn’t info about Jon Snow..
Ser Oromis Locke: There’s about two things interesting in that article.. and it isn’t info about Jon Snow..
Ugh google Translation … He said you must not be smarter than the writer … which is quite the difference to may not … 😉
plop_plop: Something to read “into” from Queen Margery…
In the books, we don’t know if he survived. I feel this is the first confirmation I’ve had that he’s dead unless Natalie is lying, too. Does this mean he dies in the books, too? I wasn’t ready for this. I didn’t mourn him & now it feels like it’s too late even if there is a funeral. Even if he comes back to life exactly the same, I don’t want Jon Snow to die. If he comes back, he will definitely be a changed man though it might be subtle. Oh, I just remembered about Ghost. Nevermind…as long as he gets his body back.
I like the Meera-Jon theory as a fun thought experiment but it is not likely to be anything more than that (the similarity in hair/looks is only a show thing). However, I do want to know why Howland Reed was so willing to send his only two offspring up north alone to embark on an exceptionally dangerous mission. I’d like to know Mr. Reed’s state of mind and possible game-changing secrets before the tale ends.
Pigeon, I hope he changes his clothes this season, especially before he gets a funko pop. That robe was the 2nd biggest tragedy last season.
I like what you wrote about Meera and Jojen. But the above theory reminds me too much of Luke-Leia to believe it to be true.
Maybe the Reeds had a vision that Bran & Meera would end up sitting in a tree. K, i, s, s, i, n, g.
Martin said Howland will appear eventually. But that was 15 years ago…
Nymeria Warrior Queen: I don’t think it coincidence, nor necessarily just tied in with
It isn’t. Jojen dreamed it & hunted him down. The book version of Bran & the Reeds is so much better. I enjoyed their journey so much. One of my favorite scenes is the liddle cave. It makes me tear up. So much good stuff got cut out of the show. When I first read about the Liddle in a cave, I was convinced it was Beric in disguise. Why else would he have dozens of biscuits? After rereading the other day, it seemed those who were watching Bran & co probably set up the meeting in the cave by predicting they would seek shelter there & were prepared with fire & food.
Huh, I’d never heard of the theory before that Meera and Jon are curly-haired twins. And I’m glad I hadn’t, lol! 😀 Looking forward to seeing Meera again and what her story is going to be. At the end of S4, it seemed to have come to a natural end.
Yeah…and I’ve been doing the fish-slapping dance for way too long….
The Meera-Jon theory has never made much sense to me, despite being an entertaining read with wine.
It’s revealed in the appendix of A Feast for Crows that Jojen and Meera’s mother and Howland Reed’s wife is Jyana Reed.
Me: Hello, Mr. Martin! Sorry for the off-topic question, but will you be writing an episode for Season 7 of Game of Thrones? D&D mentioned in a podcast earlier this month that they were about to start outlining the plot, so we, the readers instantly thought “Okay, will GRRM be involved this time?”
GRRM: I am not writing anything until I deliver WINDS OF WINTER. Teleplays, screenplays, short stories, introductions, forewords, nothing.
And I’ve dropped all my editing projects but Wild Cards.
I’d highfive you if I could!!! I have faith in him. He really seemed sincere and disappointed he couldn’t finish it before season 6.
That’s the uber-grown-up thing to say; however, he’ll definitely deliver his book well before season 7 scripts are due, right? If so, he’s hasn’t really said no.
Gravemaster: GRRM: I am not writing anything until I deliver WINDS OF WINTER. Teleplays, screenplays, short stories, introductions, forewords, nothing.
Well…at least he didn’t flip you off. The jaded spirit within me wonders how long he is going to cut-and-paste this response.
Me too. I love Meera in the books and I’m so excited to see what will be her role in the show. She still alive, so I think she has some importance.
Meera is one character most would love to see have an impact on the way things play. If there is a connection to Bran through family ties, it’ll be a good thing. The Starks & The Reeds will be close families, I feel, and back through History too. Not sure about being Jon’s sibling though, and I see where the physical looks come in. As Ellie says, they are described differently in the books.
Jaqen No One, Man of Mystery. Wonderful character, portrayed most excellently too. The more we think we know, the less we really do know. Curious – Hodor? H’ghar? Coincidentally similar sounding?
No, season 7 scripts have to be completed by this spring (maybe around June? I can’t remember exactly). Highly doubt George will be done with Winds of Winter even close to that. Maybe later in the year, if we’re really lucky.
Bran and Meera is my ship in the books, but the age difference is creepy.
I don’t know, but I think Jyana is not her real name.
April 24th can’t get here fast enough!!! Can’t wait to see what surprises are in store for us!!!
I too am eager to find out much more about Howland, the crannogfolk, their ancient connections and so on. And I do like Meera very much as a character. I suppose that her being “a little bit of a socialist at heart” might have something to do with it!
I also want desperately to visit the mysterious Isle of Faces. The greenseer blood among the Reeds would seem to point to Meera as the PoV who could take us there on some mission for Bran.
There are some pretty outlandish theories I believe but the Meera one is not one of them lol
Yay! I want to read the books but waiting for book six
Hope y’all get it soon (within a year ) and he’s not just saying that
That’s pretty awesome good for you and I do believe a congratulations is in order, the man is a living legend
I think that it is more of a comment on how small a criterion similarity is when they cast siblings. The two characters are described as looking very similar in the books. That is easy to do in a book: all it requires is words. However, the probability of finding two adults that look enough alike that they can pass for siblings AND both act is vanishingly small. As such, show and movie casters usually do not bother getting closer than general ethnicity when casting family members.
And that is what makes the idea doubly silly: if similarity was not a criterion when casting the Stark siblings (or any other TV or film siblings), then why would it be when casting “secret” siblings?
Me: Hello, Mr. Martin! Sorry for the off-topic question, but will you be writing an episode for Season 7 of Game of Thrones? D&D mentioned in a podcast earlier this month that they were about to start outlining the plot, so we, the readers instantly thought “Okay, will GRRM be involved this time?”

Kudos to you sir/madam. May the words flow freely, Georgie boy. I know he wants to finish this damn thing more than we want to read it.
Umm, so uhh, what are the best semi-clad Tom Wlaschiha movies to watch? Asking for a friend…
That’s the uber-grown-up thing to say; however, he’ll definitely deliver his book well before season 7 scripts are due, right? If so, he’s hasn’t really said no.
Yes. He saved Ned’s life, or so Ned felt. We know next to nothing about the details: the closest we get in the books are Ned revisiting it in a nightmare, so we do not even know what parts of that little bit were real and which were Ned’s regrets.
Yes, he will. Not Season 7 for any show yet airing, but GRRM will finish before season 7 of some show.
She’s a little bit of a socialist at heart, I don’t think she’ll be able to rule with the iron fist that the throne requires.
Agreed. Far less tinfoil required than some up thread suggest. in book,
Same age, long-face descriptions, curly hair, martial ability
Neither Jon nor Meera were described as having curly hair in the books? At least, I don’t think?
This is a most ridiculous theory, and she responded to that like a pro. Definitely curious about the Reeds though, can’t wait for old Howland to resurface. I wonder how and where we will see him, and if we will ever see Greywater Watch. Great mystery surrounds that place. Excited to see what Meera’s up to this season…
Like so many others, I can’t wait for Howland Reed. I actually heard a theory for the first time today that Howland is the High Sparrow which made me laugh, but anyways, lol.
I would like to find out why the Crannogmen didn’t come to Robb’s aid. Is there something I’ve missed in the books that already explained that?
I agree that Jojen and Meera’s journey north if the wall was so much better in the books. Does anyone subscribe to the “Jojen Paste” theory btw? lol
In regards to the Crannogmen’s allegience to the Stark’s, I find Meera and Jojen’s pledge wording to Bran very interesting that it mentions Ice and Fire. Does anyone know if there is any significance to it?
And no, I don’t believe Meera is Jon’s twin either. But do I believe Meera and Jojen are natural born siblings? That one I’m not so sure of.
I still hope to learn what Jaqen was up to in KL when he got caught and imprisoned. Was he on a mission for the FM, or does in it fact not matter any more than a nipple on a breastplate and he just had to be there for plot convenience on Arya’s arc?
Congratulations, I’m glad you were able to communicate with your favourite writer, most of us haven’t.
I’m sure that GRRM has the best intention and will to finish TWOW asap, but unfortunately, judging from my experience regarding people I know and myself, people don’t always manage to do what they intend to.
I hate “Jojen paste”. I’d be interested to find out more about the Reeds, Howland mostly, I hope he’ll appear in the show. And I don’t think he has already appeared, you know what I mean.
Both Meera and Ellie are nice, trustworthy girls.
If I have to compare these two teories, I give the twins theory more credit.
There’s dead and than there’s Beric Dondarrion dead. I wish some fan would ask them that.
Are there any German fans who would be willing to translate Tom Wlaschiha’s interview? I’m only pre-intermediate in German, so I wouldn’t dare. Pleeeease!
Well, if the “Jojen paste” theory comes true in TWOW, he got off easy, from a certain point of view —As far as the show is concerned, Jojen’s condition is way beyond paste! First he got stabbed to death and then blown up into thousands of charred bits. He’s probably no more than frozen ashes by now 😛
That said, ritualistic cannibalism is certainly more morbid than Jojen’s fate in the show. Especially considering the subject was probably nonconsensual and the cannibal becomes so unwittingly. That’s pretty fucked up.
The season seven scripts should be ready by the time season six is finished airing in July, at the latest. Do you seriously think GRRM will be able to deliver TWOW “well before” that? Well before that would be… right about now or in the next few months. To be honest, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the sixth book isn’t released before the seventh season

Ha. Maybe I’m conflating on the hair. I thought I noticed it during a re-read this summer, but I’d have to skim approximately 1 billion pages to confirm. The long face description I’m pretty sure of.
Wasn’t there going to be an interview with Carice Van Houten last night? Any news?
I have just remembered something. When Bran’s gang are taken prisoners at Craster’s keep by NW deserters, the horrible “legend of Gin Alley” plays with Meera’s hair, saying he likes curly hair. Now I wonder whether there was something meant to point out to Meera’s hair to make us notice it.
I have seen the show for many times, but I have read the books only once, so my memories linked to the show are more vivid.
Yes, he said something about her hair twice. So curious.
I’d hate for anything to happen to Meera…which means she’ll likely die a violent and horrifying death….and then turn into “Meera Paste”? 😉
Meera is said to have long brown hair in the books, same as Jon. Her eyes however are green, same as Jojen. Whereas Jon has the grey eyes of the Starks. Only his eyes are much darker, that they almost look black. Plus, Meera in the books, is supposed to be short and slim, similar to other crannogmen. Basically the only thing common between Jon and Meera in the books is their age and maybe their hair, since both are described to have brown hair. I don’t think the twin theory is true though.
I still hope to learn what Jaqen was up to in KL when he got caught and imprisoned. Was he on a mission for the FM,or does in it fact not matter any more than a nipple on a breastplate and he just had to be there for plot convenience on Arya’s arc?
I’ve always wondered the same thing. And if he was associated with Rorge and Biter beforehand? I know some theories are that they are Faceless Men as well but it seems that the whole deal with FM is that they are quiet unassuming assassins and those two are visually insane. There is another pretty far-fetched theory out there that Varys saved Ned by sneaking him out of the cells and replaced him with a FM for his public trial. Again, I can’t see a FM being used for that.
I love how it seems that the longer the span is between the books, the crazier the theories seem to get, lol. But its great fun reading them.
Does anybody here remember Meera Lynn? Remember how she said that we would meet again…in Season 6.
What has become of you? The nerds have all made up theories and my balls are turning blue.
See? I knew there was an easier option than me looking back through the books-thanks. I think they’re both described as long-faced, & I think I remember Bran noting that she was of an age with Jon.
It’s a stretch, but there’s at least enough to hang a hat on. More so than some of the truly batsh% theories.
For the love of god another one of these insane theories, seriously some of them are just too much to handle.
I don’t really support the Jaqen = Syrio theory. Even if we suppose Syrio was captured by Meryn F. Trant and not killed, then put in the Black Cells, surely someone would notice at some point that Syrio had “disappeared” and a new prisoner in the form of Jaqen had “appeared”? The timeline is a bit confused to as to when Jaqen, Rorge and Biter were released in to the care of Yoren and whether Ned was in the cells at the same time.
It may not be at all important, but I think GRRM really doesn’t like loose ends and few things happen by pure chance in his world, so Jaqen must have had some purpose in KL. Whether we shall ever know….
No way! I’ll forbid any “paste Reed” theory!
I’d rather believe the Syrio Forel theory, or, at least, I want it to be true. But about Rorge and Biter, I think it’s impossible. Don’t forget Arya killed Rorge in the show. And about Ned it’s even less believable.

I think GRRM himself said something at some time to at least strongly hint that there is no connection between Syrio and Jaqen, don’t know if I could ever find it…
What a pity! But GRRM must know best!
I’d like to know how is our MeeraReed. I hope she becomes stronger and healthier every day. Get well soon!
Well this is not from the horses mouth but info from westeros.org
In 2005, GRRM pointed out that Syrio seems to have been left in a hopeless situation when he was last seen, and suggested readers should “draw your own conclusions” based on this (SSM), which seems to imply that Syrio Forel was in fact killed. More recent reports (but, it should be said, unconfirmed) indicate GRRM does not understand why he gets asked the question repeatedly, pointing out that Syrio is not immortal; if accurate, this seems to more heavily imply that Syrio Forel is dead.
Regarding Jaqen, if a very reasonable IMO theory is true relating to the prologue of ADWD, then Jaqen, while not a major character, seems to have a part to play in at least expanding some of the dragon lore/myth (how this will play out in the show must be different, with Jaqen in the HoB&W). I am sure that GRRM would have given him a back story that would explain his presence in KL, I just hope that that it might be revealed sometime.
You are welcome…I don’t remember Meera being described as long faced though!
Regarding the Syrio=Jaqen theory, I don’t know if this proves or disproves anything, but in AFFC, when Jaime questions the gaoler after Tyrion’s escape from the black cells, he tells Jaime that it was Ned Stark who had given the three criminals in the black cells to the Night’s Watch. I remember this quite clearly as I am reading AFFC now. So unless the gaoler was making a mistake, it means that Jaqen was already in the black cells before Syrio had his showdown with Meryn Trant. Which would make it unlikely that they are the same person?
