Persephone, goddess of spring and flowers, tediously packed up her things and trudged miserably down to the underworld. Her visit to Hades made her mother Demeter, the goddess of harvest, so sad that the air would turn bitter, frost would bite the plants and crops, and the leaves would shrivel up and turn an ugly brown before falling to the ground. In Greek mythology, Ananke of Anagke (Ancient Greek: Ἀνάγκη, from the common noun ἀνάγκη, force, constraint, necessity), was the personification of destiny, necessity and fate, depicted as holding a spindle. She marks the beginning of the cosmos, along with Chronos. She was seen as the most powerful dictator of all fate and circumstance which meant that the other Gods had to give her respect and pay homage as well as the mortals.
