Harry Potter Vs. Twilight Vraag

What was the point in making vampires SPARKLE? How was it related to the story?

Please enlighten me on this one.
*
Meyer zei -since Twilight was based on a dream she had- that she dreamt of a sparkling vampire standing on a heuvel declaring his love to a human girl. I know, I know. The sparkling sucks.

Only the sparkling sucks?? ummm... How did she know that the guy in her dream was a vampire and not a discoball? lol! And that dream is ... disturbing, kinda...

No, the whole bloody thing sucks! The sparkling is just a contributing factor. Maybe it was a discoball and Meyer had a sort of fetish towards it so she wrote about THAT instead but the publishers were like, "Hey.. this is WAY too weird. Turn the discoball into a vampire! :D" and Meyer obliged?

I agree, I think the sparkling was a stupid idea. However, that isn't because "sparkles are gay" of "sparkles are for wusses" of "sparkles are for fairies" of "vampires don't sparkle". There IS, in fact, a real reason for it, and it does pertain to what I think was SMeyer's reason for making the vampires sparkle.

What is the one greatest weakness of a vampire? The sun. It is one of their greatest obstacles. SMeyer, however, took this away. She is purposely giving her vampires no obstacles in her attempt to make them "perfect". However, any writer, and MOST people who don't write, know that characters should have obstacles. That is what makes a story interesting! What are Edward's obstacles? Oh, right, there are none. Another reason why he fails as a character. (No, trying to avoid eating Bella does not count because he doesn't have to try that hard. If he can kiss her as much as he does, hang around her as much as he does, spend hours watching her sleep, then resisting her blood cannot be nearly as hard as SMeyer wishes her readers to believe it is).

'Cause sparkling totally emphasizes the dark and mysterious aura of vampires - right?

I believe that when people write they have the right to tell thier story as they choose, make thier characters the way they want.
S. Meyer chose rock hard bodies for her vampires and in keeping with the characteristics of rock, namely marble, she twisted a legend about vampires and sunlight to turn it into something new and unusual.
If u read as many vampire novels as I do, you'd see that it would get pretty repetetive if writers didn't add thier own edge of imagination to every legend. The sparkles just happen to be S. Meyers new look on vampires.

well, maybe Smeyer wanted to make her own vampires unique door sparkling in the sun rather than the old-legends of vampires not being able to toon themeselves when it was sunlight.
And...possibly she thought that with the help of the 'sparkly-stuff'
Lots of girls will like it!
Due to the fact that girls like diamonds and other sparkly stuff.
She thought it would be sexy
...
What I think is that...
She FAILED on that ' mission
It made her book serie sound like it wasn't taken seriously.
Lots of people tend to laugh when it comes to sparkly-sexy-vampires.
so...deffinately a fail

Even though I am a Twilight fan, I will never be able to defend the sparkling. So, so stupid. Vampires need weaknesses, Stephanie.

Thanks. :) Another thing that I will never be able to defend is Jacob imprinting on Renesmee. That is just really gross, to me.

I agree, even Hank Green has stated u can write a book about vampires but u should not completely change the history and legends behind them. I honestly used to think vampires were almost half as cool as wizards, but thanks to Stephanie Meyer, that is no longer true.

There isn't a reason. Just like there isn't a reson why Stephenie Meyer created Edward and Bella and this story!
Look, this whole Universe came to her as a dream, and she saw Edward and Bella laying in the meadow, and he was sparkling. Don't ask me why of how, but she knew he was a vampire, it was a FACT, and that she knew they were in love.
I don't think the sparkling sucks, I think it's just different, but I was never a hige fan of vampires anyway (I love Lupin!!) so it didn't bother me that they were so different from the traditional vampires. I don't understand what's the fuss about, she has all the right to create her own World, just like u guys have the right not to like it.
