Hermione is strong, loyal, trusting, and stuck by Harry's side no matter what happened to him. She's intelligent, eager to learn, and although snobby--can throw a mean punch. Behind her ugly duckling lies and swan (shown at the Yule Ball). Girls can relate to her and look up to her as a role model. She illuminates the role of women and gives us all a good name :)

Bella is awkward, boring, male dependent, needy, selfish, expressionless, obsessive, self centered, manipulative, whiny, and the perfect definition of FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS!

cassie-1-2-3, I am asking you this without any ill feelings. It is only because I am genuinely curious. Have you read the seven books of Harry Potter?
Because most Twilight fans comment on Harry Potter characters without actually knowing their characteristics...or even the Harry Potter plot.
I have read both series quite thoroughly, and though I'm sure you'll have different opinions, twilight contains too much lust and love for me. Meyer has filled the entire book with romance, completely engulfing the plot (it's like Pansy Parkinson dumping too much newt eyes in her cauldron in Snape's class, causing her cauldron to explode). So much romance is disastrous in a book. JK Rowling has not overloaded Harry Potter with romance yet Snape's love for Lily is touching beyond description. In my own personal opinion, JK Rowling has written a better love-story in a few chapters than Stephenie Meyer in a grand total four books.
I don't mean any insults to any twilight lovers, I'm not critising any of you, only the book so please don't take this personally.

Yes, I have read all seven books of Harry Potter (quite thuroughly), and yes, I have different opinions than you.

The story of Edward and Bella is a romance story (it's an actual genre that exists), so of course it's main focal point is going to be romance. Harry Potter is not a romance story, so it's focal point is not romance. Now, if you have something against romance stories, that's not Twilight's fault, is it? It's not exactly catered to people who don't like romance.

You do have a good point, but it's not that I'm against romance. Romance being the main point in a book can turn out good as long as the plot and action is distinct enough to really excite people, but twilight lacks that, so many people hate it.
The thing is, I think the reason far more people like HP better is because its audience is for everyone, whether they be young or old, boys or girls whilst twilight is only for teenage girls caught up with love.

Cause Hermione is a witch and if Bella tried ro attack Hermione she'll use expelliarmus or anything else and it'll make her flying away

^Well Hermione can cast a shield charm too which I highly doubt Bella can penetrate. All Bella can do is cast her shield or run. Hermione can cast a shield, cast spells, apparate, fly on a broom, and m ore!

Hermione is a strong independent girl/woman,she doesn't always have to call her boyfriend like Bella.

Hermione, she is someone every girl can look upto. She is intellegent, clever, responsible, independent, caring, loyal. Bella is pretty and well she is... well she is... Oh, I guess that's pretty much everything about Bella.

Hermione--Smart, strong, loyal, and she can handle her own. A fantastic role model! She saves Harry and Ron so many times, and teaches girls that they can be a warrior, and that it's ok to be book-smart. It'll help you in the long run. She shows girls it's okay to have FLAWS. When Ron leaves her, she stays strong, remains with Harry, and continues to try and destroy Horcruxes. Good girl!

Bella--Quite frankly, she is weak. She can't do anything for herself, and tries to teach girls that you are nothing without your man, that you need and depend on him. Boyfriend dumps you? Jump off a cliff, he'll come running back! Is this really the lesson we want to teach our girls?

Difficult to say as the books serve such different purposes. Hermione is an awesome character, but she's an "ideal" character. Rowling had to write her with young children in mind so she had to be someone beyond reproach and with less shades of grey to her character. She has bad points and flaws, but they're either acceptable and easily forgivable ones or not dwelled on at all. The result is that to me she's a bit of a far fetched character, even for a fantasy book. She's way too mature and put together for a teen, let alone an 11 year old. Bella on the other hand, as immature, selfabsorberd, lacking in confidence and prone to recklessness - all typical teen traits and behaviour - is a lot more realistic to me. There's a reason why the teen years are difficult ones for parents, teenagers are usually painfully annoying characters for them to deal with.What I like about Bella is that despite her very real flaws, and the mistakes she makes, you get hints of the awesome adult she'll grow up to be: a loving and protective mother and wife, someone who might be a bit of a pushover on small things, but will stand up for and fight for her convictions and what's really important to her.

So Hermione is kind of who I wish I was and how I (and my parents) wish I had behaved as a child/teen. Bella is who I most related to, stupid, reckless behaviour and all.

Bella is whiny and to be honest I REALLY hate twilight

Hermione has flaws ('know-it-all', bullied, bossy, she shows off, she nags alot), but I'd take many flaws over no flaws any day of the week.
