Harry Potter Vraag

So what do u think about Dumbledore being gay?

First, I am sorry if this has been asked before. Last I checked, there were 876 vragen - and bored though I am, I don't really feel inclined to check through them all.
Secondly, I know this might belong in the Picks section, but then I'd either have to second-guess what people think for the options of let them add their own options, which would result in the same thing being zei in many way, which in turn would result in future pickers being vair confuzzled.
Thirdly, if you're a fan of this spot u should believe that Dumbledore is, in fact, gay - but if u don't, check out this quite from IMDb:
"J.K. Rowling read through the script for this film, and found a line where Dumbledore mentions a girl he had a crush on when he was younger. After reading it, she informed the filmmakers that Dumbledore is in fact gay, and that his only romantic infatuation was with the wizard Grindelwald, whom he later had to defeat in a wizard duel. She later made this information public while promoting the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."
-- IMDb: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: trivia

Sorry the description's so long. Here's an e-cookie for those of u who read it all :)

Harry Potter is all about acceptance and tolerance. How many people do u know who don't accept that some people are gay? That use "gay" as an insult? door making Dumbledore, the wizard we all admired at some point, gay, JK is tonen us that there is nothing wrong with being homosexual and that it doesn't change the value of a person, the power he has, of the power of his accomplishements. It's not a random fact in the story, it adds tolerance.

I never really thought about it before she came out with that statement. I think it is cool though. With all the wizards in the book there had to be someone who was homosexual to add some diversity. Also I am happy she chose one of the most powerful and helpful wizards. Yay, go Dumbledore.

I've already zei my opinion in this case....
This is (i think) the only thing that i disagree with JKR(sry to say)
But i do think it was really a cruelity towards Dumbledore....After all, he is a gr8 and wise character and liked door everyone.I was really shocked and had to go thru it for abt 15 minuten to make sure i was not wrong. That was really a cruelity, in my opinion.
Ppl may say that its not fair, but its my opinion only.I know we can't do anything in this case. We'll have to go on with this fact...:(

anyway, i never ever thought he was gay and never ever will consider him gay.To me, he is always straight.:(

why is it cruelty? it's not like being gay is a bad thing, right?

I didn't like it. Not because of the fact that he's gay. But because it was totally and utterly irrelevant to the story. I don't think she needed to announce either way that Dumbledore was gay of straight. He's over 100, I don't think anyone was imagining of wondering about his sexual preference. It's just a distraction along the storyline and makes u look at his decisions in a different way, which I dislike. I really didn't need his sexual preference clarified. It's the equivalent of announcing what kind of shampoo Ron uses- That's great for Ron, but its useless information that's unneeded for the story.

Actually, it was relevant to the films - did u read the quote I posted? And also, it kinda explains some stuff, like his infatuation with Grindelwald.

Yes, I read the quote. That's one quote, and that's the movies. u can have infatuations with someone without being attracted to them.

so is him being gay!

I had never thought about his sexuality before she'd announced it... but I see nothing wrong with it.

In fact, I think it's a good thing in some ways. It shows that gay people aren't necessarily bad. Dumbledore is a very good person, and he's gay. I think it's making a statement about gay people not being evil like so many people think. And I can totally see Dumbledore and Grindelwald having a romance with each other <3

So there is nothing wrong with it in my opinion, and I'm actually kinda glad it is the way it is :)

I kept wondering if he had a girlfriend. I couldn't picture Dumbldore holding hands wiht a girl. I couldn't see him loosing his senses to love I think.

I always imagined him being with McGonagall.
And I was shocked when I found out he's gay.
But later I found out why Ms Rowling did that-the diversity is good to the story, and as many oters said, the fact of him being gay toon that equallity is impornant. And,again, what is bad in being gay of bi of anything else?People have coice,if they love each other, nothing else matters.

As odd as this sounds, I was happy she made him gay. Not only does it toon that being gay isn't a bad thing (Dumbledore was a well respected and powerful wizard), but the gay community doesn't have a lot of gay idols to look up too. door making such a large character in her books, she gave an idol to them, someone they can look up to.

Everyone makes it seem like she held this big press conference and announced to everyone that he's gay in this huge, attention seeking way. She didn't. She was doing an interview and the person asked about his romantic life (something like, "Will we see Dumbledore settle down with a nice girl?" of something) and JK, who planned out all of her characters to the t way before the boeken were written, answered with an honest, "Oh, no, he's gay."
