I didn't lose all my respect for him. People can change, and he was just a teenager! We all make stupid mistakes. (And if you don't believe me about people changing, look at Snape for example!)

Lost most of my respect for him...
I've always loved Severus, so The Prince's Tale didn't change anything.
I changed my way of thinking about Dumbledore.
Voldemort's the same in my mind.

He's a freaking twat. I lost ALL respect for him at that point, he never regained it. I mean - what an asshole! He didn't deserve Lily. Snape did. Poor Snape. Stupid little shit.

The only other change was I felt more sorry for Snape. It was terribly sad. For some reason, I kinda liked Dumbledore just a TEENY bit more. Dunno why though, strange.

i cant stand james much either, but i was wondered what voldemorts childhood was like, was he born evil or he grew into it? i loved the books with more of his past...lol..

it was very interesting getting a glimpse to dumbledore's past too, it made sense to why his so protective of harry, always persistant of not hiding the truth and being honest with harry and not sugar coating the reasons why harry experiences the constant pain, events...so yeah...Snape's awesome lol :P

I lost some of my respect for James after reading that scene(though not enough to make me dislike him). But I remebered that most importantly, he GREW UP.
Snape tale almost made me cry. I loved him after I read it.

solsis picked Snape-The prince's tale:
I didnt lose any respect for James. He was a teenager, he made fun of Snape but we still have to understand that what we saw was from Snapes perspective...everyone remembers things different and this was only ONE view. I mean yes he wasnt nice to Snape at that time, but I dont think it was as bad as losing all respect for him...he was immature. But I dont think that makes Snapes actiones towards Harry "understanble" bullying him when he himself was an adult.

But nways yeah obviously after reading the princes tale you completly change on Snape, not because many of the things he he did werent wrong, but becomes what he finally did was very admirable, and it made me respect him as a character.

AllegroGiocoso picked James Potter-The story Harry saw in the Pensieve:
The glossy idealist way James was painted in the first four books made it a very fascinating and surprising change. I like old James, but younger James I like less than characters like Cormac McLaggen, Zacharias Smith, and Pansy Parkinson. At the same time, the Pensieve scene made me like Snape quite a bit more, and my liking for him gradually increased...and by the end of the seventh book, I loved him.

SG1-090 picked Dumbledore-The story about his younger life:
With James it gave me more of his character. I don't hate him and I don't think he was all that bad either. He was horrible in this scene and obviously a totally bastard towards Snape but he wasn't all bad. Really he was just young and didn't really think to much about what he was actually doing and how bad he might actually be making people (like Snape) feel. But he was still obviously a loyal friend - shown in how he treated Lupin & Sirius - who grew up into a good person.
But what I liked about him from this scene is him and Sirius - seeing there friendship in action was amazing and it made me see how truely close they were, for my money the closest friends in the book excluding Fred&George, and it changed the way i thought about them.

Snape - WOW his did change my opinion of him ALOT. And since i've never liked Snape - not at all - it did make me like him more and in the end I did feel sorry for him. At the same time i'm not sure how good of a person he was. He joined Voldemort - supposedly believing in pure blood values (though voiding them for Lily) - and only turned against Voldemort when Lily was in danger. So he turned for her, that's great and all but he still didn't seem to care about anyone else all that much. And wanting the demetors to kiss Sirius? Yeh overall I'm not a great fan but like I said "The Prince's tale" did make me feel sorry for him.

Voldemort's didn't change my opinion of him at all. It was interesting but still.

Dumbledore's WOW - this might sound stupid but I never even considered Dumbledore having parent's or him being a child! So this was completely weird for me. It explained so much about the way he was and the way he acted and truely made me love him so much more!

SG1-090

you really misunderstand why snape join death eater ,he just seek for a strength that can protect him,you can learn how these four people treated him,and james even can not against him alone。so snape just wanted something that protect him。and he belonged to Slytherin where nearly everyone to be death eater,it is very hard for him not to be a death eater

severus had very painful past,he had many reasons to be an evil man,why he should make friends with Gryffindor?he got so much painful from Gryffindor,he had no choice but join death eater when he was young.

it is great that he had great love .he devoted all of himself including life honor dignity happiness and so on for defeating voldy and protecting harry.

that is so why i respect him

i like sirius, but i have no respect for james ,because james mean to severus

I loved Severus Snape from the very beginning, so the only change I could have after reading Prince's Tale, was to love him even more.

Dumbledore on the other hand lost my respect completely after his biography and I actually started hating him after reading Snape's memories.

Like most people, I never really liked James anyway. And I think I'm one of the few people who wasn't all that fond of Sirius either.

This was the closest answer for me to pick, since my opinion never changed about any of the other characters.

Vixie79 picked James Potter-The story Harry saw in the Pensieve:
2solsis: I can kind of agree that the memory we saw of James doing what he did to Seveus was Severus's perspective, but I don't see how that's less valid. If it was seen through Severus's eyes that's how he felt it and how he saw it, that was HIS reality. You really can't judge that sort of thing unless it's been done to you and how humiliating and scathing at can really be. Especially to someone like Snape that was withdrawn and a serious introvert and probably had it done to him on more than one occasion.

But, Anyway, I lost respect for James after that. He was a bully and nothing more.

Snape's story defiintitely changed my view from severely disliking him to thinking of him as a hero. And I don't like how people are hating on James. He changed! Sirius and Remus said so. It isn't right to judge him based on that. Who knows? Snape may have done awful things to him too!

All of them in different ways
bri-marie picked All of them in different ways:
Not really all of them, but I didn't feel like adding an answer that said "All of them except for Severus." So, here goes:

Dumbledore: I was very ambivalent about Dumbledore until DH. There were times were I liked him and believed that he had everyone's best interests at heart. Then there were times where I thought he was conniving old man who wasn't actually thinking about the consequences of his actions. After reading DH, about his past and realizing that he hadn't much changed from the "For The Greater Good" mentality definitely put him low on my list of characters.

Voldemort: I definitely sympathized more towards him after I read about his past and family. While I don't think he ever did the right thing, I couldn' see him as this monster who simply wanted to be immortal for the sake of being immortal.

James: I was pretty indifferent towards James until OotP. I respected him (and don't get me wrong: I still do) for giving his life for his son, but I didn't know anything more than that. I couldn't say I liked or disliked him based on the little information that was given. But seeing (and hearing Remus and Sirius' sides) definitely changed my view. Just like Dumbledore, it pushed him low on my list of characters.

Bangel90 picked None of them:
I've always loved Dumbledore and James and their pas didn't shock me. James was a bully like Malfoy but James grew up and became a great father, he had good morals and fought against Voldemort. He shouldn't have bullied Snape but he was a kid and kids make mistakes...he certainly regretted being so harsh and I think he made amends for them.

I've always disliked Snape even after DH..I just don't care for him that much. The story of Voldy's abandonment didn't really struck a chord in me so I added None.
