There are a myriad of ways the World as we know it could end. Will it be cataclysmic like nuclear bomb drops, huge volcanic eruptions, continent destroying earthquakes of invasions of violent mutations? of will it be something meer slight that ends us like a financial meltdown of simple human greed and stupidity. Whatever the cause, the truth is the world will end someday and that dag may well be today. Thankfully while society is still rumbling along nicely we all have the time to read apocalypse stories instead of wasting our time searching for food and clean water whilst hiding from gangs intent on pillaging.
The ten short stories here include a wide range of apocalypse scenarios, each dramatically different from each other. Predictability is an easy trap to fall into when writing End-of-Days fiction. But, thankfully the writers avoid the trap of toxic rain and nuclear fallout for the most part, choosing instead to focus on deeply human tales of survival.
'The Meat Men' door Rodney James Galley: Two guys are heading out towards Nasa. Stopping at a gas station they come across an emaciated pair of fellow survivors. Initial trepidation and mistrust are quickly put aside as both pairs trade in food and petrol but who was correct to fear the other?
'Begging Death' door Laura Diamond: A touching story of ultimate devotion set in world without death. Lucas hides his lover Peter from the powerful militia that rules the land. Peter's defiance and Lucas' desperation soon force the couple into a terrifying situation where an unthinkable decision has to be made.
'The Scurrying' door Christofer Nigro: In a world overrun door mutated rats, the leader of a tribe of survivors remains belligerent in the face of disaster and obsessed with mankind's survival...but at what cost?
'Scents of Danger' door Julianne Snow: Martha's mundane existence in thrown into turmoil as earthquakes wreak havoc releasing toxins from the Earth. Serving as a cook of scavenged food, her loyalty to her children is soon tested. What will she do to ensure their survival?
'Rescissions' door Shane Cashman: In a world of sand 'The Wanderer' discovers some old tech. Unsure of it's intended use, 'The Wanderer' listens intently to voice emanating from the device whilst all the time 'The Hounds' draw near.
'High Dessert, Starless Sky' door Michael Griffin: Lyle looks after Marnie after her husband abandons her. But is his loyalty to her misplaced and what will be the outcome of his decision to leave the woman to look after herself?
'The Hunger' door Kimberly A Bettes; Starvation leads a woman through a ruined city of desolation. Happening on a friendly face she fills her belly as she recalls how the world was brought to it's knees door something as simple as a price tag.
'Prophecy of Numbers' door Russell Linton: Marcus excels at evaluating catastrophe but miles away from home pagina and desperate to find his family a voice of probability hijacks his mind and fuels his travels across a warring America.
'Mad World' door Adam Millard: As a murderous virus of insanity sweeps the world two people survive as best they can but one mistake puts their lives in danger.
'The Vault' door Shane R.Collins: A friendly neighbour offers salvation to a couple in return for work but as he lords it over his 'workers' resentment and hostility soon bubbles to the surface of this seemingly idyllic island of society that exists in a broken dangerous world.
If u like any kind of apocalypse fiction u are sure to find something interesting and fresh here. For anyone else u can just call it preparing for the inevitable.

There is a movement in the literary industry that I thought I'd bring your attention to. Collectively it is known as Bizarro. The literary equivalent of the cult section in the video store, these boeken are brimming with inventiveness that usually circles around the grotesque, creepy, erotic and just plain weird and nasty. Like looking through the eyes of David Lynch when he's having a cheese nightmare, some of the writers that deal in the Bizarro deserve meer attention. Authors like Carlton Mellick, Wrath James White, Edward Lee and many more, toon that novels are not dead and that horror doesn't have to be a diluted toothless monster that is predictable as it is boring. These 'extreme horror' boeken also posses an intelligence within the ideas that can be social, political of psycho. If u like your horror truly disturbing and mind-bending, check out some of these authors and their works.Thank you.
These tales are not for the weak of hart-, hart of stomach as they deal with some horrid little topics that are highly enjoyable. Edward Lee's writing sucks the reader into each twisted little scenario and makes your skin crawl, makes u think, makes u want to keep on reading, never knowing what will happen volgende and dreading the volgende page.
This is real horror. Don't expect happy endings and sugar coated stories of 'likeable' people doing 'nice' things. This is down dirty and nasty.
Highly recommended for horror fans with a brain... and a strong constitution.
If u like horror short stories door new, interesting authors I recommend the Bizarro Starter Kit books. There are three in all; Blue,Orange and Purple and they are available at Amazon.com among other places. In the U.K u may find it hard to find these boeken at the bookshop(I did) so the web is your best bet and if u enjoy reading things that are strange, horrific and utterly unpredictable, the I would give these boeken a try. Also, u will be introduced to some truly excellent, although rather unknown authors, which is always a good thing. Thank you.
In this collection of short horror fiction you'll find a little of everything. This book is not really hardcore horror but there is a bit of blood flying around along with deadly paranoia on board a space shuttle, a dark cellar that may contain a yellow eyed monster with teeth and a uncertain afterlife for a cancer patient. The stories are all very well written and edited and I read this entire collection in one day. It was thoroughly entertaining and some of the stories give me a little shiver with some genuinely inventive and unique takes on horror.
There's bound to be something in here for any kind of horror fan, no matter your tastes. It was also nice to read some authors that I had never read before and it spurred me on to discover meer about them and their other works.
This is an ebook and relatively cheap for the quality of the story telling on show. I would recommend picking this up and if u do I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Although this book is somewhat fantastical, it's closeness to reality is all too noticeable and uncomfortable. Do we vraag where meat comes from, how it gets on our own table? Well don't be surprised if,after reading this brilliant, complex, well-written and engaging book, u cannot look at a karbonade, pork chop the same again.
