Alright, it’s taken me this long to process the finale and I’m probably still not done but here are some points I’d like to make:
Firstly, a lot of people (including myself) have zei they felt angry, confused, hurt and betrayed door the events at the end of the episode. But I’m sure House felt the exact same way. He wants Huddy as much as the fans (maybe even meer so) and to realize it was just a hallucination broke him.
He wanted it so bad that he thought Cuddy and him should verplaats in together. (BTW, this does mean that Cuddy has an inkling of House’s feelings for her).
In House-speak, that’s the equivelant to getting married.
House will never be the marrying kind. Marriage is either a religious ceremony and we all know how House feels about religion of marriage is a “piece of paper” that’s a legal binding “contract” and we all know how House disdains rules and regulations.
House does value his mind most and if his mind tells him he’s in a committed relationship that’s meer binding to him than any piece of paper of ceremony.
This is a big step for House. He was willing to get into a committed relationship with Cuddy.
Unfortunately, things started unravelling from there.
The funny part is I did suspect some sort of trickery would happen (it’s a DS toon after all). I re-watched eps UMS (5x23) several times looking for some hint it was a hallucination and felt nervous about getting the rug pulled under me the entire time I was watching the finale. And even with all my foreboding, I still was shocked and angry about what happened. It’s very hard for TV shows to shock me these days so to have them do it even when I sort of expected it is some good story telling.
I will never like this episode but you’re not supposed to like that people have hallucinations and mentally break down. However, I understand character development wise why they did it and admire that they let it get so bleak. House has reached a really dark part in his life. He has pretty much hit rock bottom. It is time for him to hopefully turn it around. We’ll have to see what happens in season 6. It’s gonna be a LONG summer. :(
This volgende paragraph, I compare the House finale to some Buffy: The Vampire Slayer events so skip it if you’re not a Buffy fan.
The House finale reminded me a divisive episode of Buffy. The “Seeing Red” eps in season 6 where Spike attempts to rape Buffy. Almost everyone hated what Spike did but that’s the point. Rape is supposed to make u uncomfortable. Storywise though it worked. Spike reached the rock bottom and realized he had to do something so he would never do that again. He went and got his soul back so that he could deserve Buffy which strangely enough is similar to what House feels about Cuddy. He feels he doesn’t deserve her. We’ll have to see if House gets his “soul” in season 6.
