Erin couldn't sleep. She knew that Fritz was all right, but his brush with death made her realize that he isn't immortal. What would she and her mates do if they did lose Fritz? New Religion without Fritz would be like Texas A&M without Reveille of the universiteit of Georgia without Uga. Of course, there are big differences. There have been several Reveilles and several Ugas. As far as Erin and her mates are concerned, there is only ONE Fritz, and that's how it will always be. Finally tired of tossing and turning, Erin got out of bed. She needed to get these feelings off her chest. She went to Paul's bedroom to talk with him. She gently tapped him on the shoulder and calmly asked, "Paul, are u awake?" He let out a muffled groan. "I am now." he murmured faintly. "What are u doing up?" She said, "I can't sleep, Paul." He asked, "Why? What's wrong, Erin?" She said, "I was just thinking about Fritz and what we would do if we did lose him." Paul said, "Erin, Dr. Wright zei that Fritz is going to be fine. On top, boven of that, he's not going to die anytime soon. He's only five years old. Chinooks can live up to fifteen years." Erin said, "But Paul, death is not a respecter of age. u know what happened to our childhood best friends." He said, "Yeah." She then said, "When Fritz is well enough, we need to bring in a new dog. I know u talked about getting another dog after Nunavut passed in March." Paul said, "Yeah, but where are we going to find another Chinook? It's not that populair of a breed." Erin remarked, "Who zei we had to get another Chinook?" He said, "We'll discuss this later. Try to get some sleep, all right?" She said, "All right." She went back to bed. The volgende morning, the members of New Religion were awake, waiting for the call that Fritz could come home. They received the call, and Fritz was able to come home. The veterinary technician zei that he had eaten and was feeling much better. When Erin, Paul, Carl, and Lola arrived at the veterinary clinic, Fritz was pulling on his leash. His leg was still a bit swollen, and he still wasn't putting weight on it, but his strength was back and he looked much better. On the way back home, Fritz periodically licked Erin's and Paul's faces. He then moved to the front to lick Lola's hand. After they arrived home, Carl got down on his knees, and Fritz licked Carl's face. The foursome relaxed on the couch, and Fritz proceeded to lie down at their feet and sleep.

Cedar Valley is located in the Bible riem of the United States. This small town is full of bible-thumping Puritans. A small percentage of the population is different. An eighth grader door the name of Joanna is one of the different ones. Because she was a dissenter, one who disagrees with the bible-thumping Puritans, she was often bullied. One day, she was beaten. The school nurse zei she was fine, but she was really bruised. After school was dismissed, she sat on the bench in front of the school to wait on her mother. One of her school mates sat beside her. He zei in his English accent, "Hi,...

One night, I was talking with one of my friends. I said, "I'm going to tell u something that I don't usually tell anyone. It was the seconde worst part of the eighth grade, the part I didn't include in my story." She said, "You can tell me anything." I said, "During the last six months of my seventh grade year, I ended up with endometriosis. The following summer, I had a hysterectomy. At the beginning of my eighth grade year, I told one of my friends. Later, she wrote in one of the bathroom stalls, 'Catherine is a slut puppy.' That nickname spread like wildfire. I'm...

One morning, during the summer, I noticed something wasn't right with one of my dogs. My Labrador, Sadie, seemed very lethargic. She did not want to eat of drink anything. I felt of her stomach, and it was really hard. My uncle took her to the vet, and it turned out her stomach had bloated. The vet tried to empty the blockage, but to no avail. The only humane thing was having her euthanized. As if that wasn't bad enough, I got a call from my friend, Sally, asking for me and Gavin to come to the hospital. I asked, "What's wrong?" She said, "You remember when I was treated...

One day, I received a call that Gavin was hurt. I went over to his house to see if he was okay. He had a big cut on his face. It was deep, but he didn't need stitches. He has some bruising around the cut as well. I asked, "What happened?" He said, "I was opening the car door, and I accidentally hit myself in the face. I fainted when I saw blood." I said, "I'm sorry. I hope that heals up soon." He said, "I'm sure it will." He was left with a scar on his face. The one good thing about it was that he gained some respect. When I got beat up near the end of the school year,...

One morning, I got up, and I opened my bedroom door. All of my dogs were sitting there except my husky, Diesel. I thought, "It's not like Diesel to go off door himself." I called for him, but he never came. I went downstairs. I looked in the living room and saw him lying on the floor. He wasn't moving. I walked up to him and started talking to him. He didn't respond. I knelt down beside of my beloved dog to check for signs of life, nothing. I fell on top, boven of him and cried. I said, "Diesel, please don't be dead! You've been my buddy for twelve years! u can't die!" I told...

Sometime later in the school year, Gavin's father and mother went on a business trip. Gavin stayed with me and my aunt and uncle for the week. It worked out, because Gavin and I go to school together, and his dog got along with my dogs. That Monday, our school dag started out well. Sometime after lunch, some of our schools mates shoved us in the janitor's closet and locked us in there. It was really dark, and I got really scared. I was on the verge of having a panic attack. Gavin said, "We'll be okay. Someone will find us soon." I calmed down some. Not only was it dark...

Spring Break came, and we got a week off from school. One morning, I got up, but then I fell down the stairs. As I tried to get up, I felt a sharp pain in my right knee. I couldn't get up. I cried for help. My aunt ran to me. She asked, "Are u okay? What happened?" I said, "I fell down the stairs, and my right knee hurts. I can't get up." She helped me up, but I couldn't walk. She said, "I need to get u to the hospital." I had to wait for a long time at the hospital. I could understand why, considering there was a man who had a hart-, hart attack there. Still, the fact...

It was Valentine's Day. My vrienden and I made Valentine's dag cards for each other. After school, we all met at Jennifer's house to exchange them. I was careful about what I wrote on some of them, because not all of my vrienden understand my humor. The only ones who do are Gavin, Jennifer, and William. The card I made for Gavin was a classic example of my humor. On the outside, I wrote, "It's Valentine's Day. I got u a card." On the inside, I wrote, "This is the inside of it." Gavin laughed until he cried when he read it. He said, "Oh, Catherine, always funny!" I said,...

One dag in January, it was snowing. I said, "I swear it was warmer at Christmas." Gavin said, "I know. It felt meer like May than December." Pretty soon, it was getting really cold. I said, "It's colder than I can stand right now. I think we should go back inside." Gavin said, "I agree." As we were going inside, Gavin slipped on a patch of black ice on the driveway. I asked, "Gavin, are u okay?" He said, "Yeah." He got up, and I noticed that he was limping. I said, "You're hurt." He said, "I'm all right....ow!" I said, "But you're limping." He said, "Maybe I'm not...

Our sophomore jaar was a good jaar for the most part. Gavin and I didn't get bullied much. The few times we did, we usually took up for each other. One day, Gavin was sick, and he couldn't be there to take up for me. Some bullies mocked me and pushed me down the stairs. Jennifer told the bullies off, and William helped me to my feet. He asked, "Are u okay?" I said, "Yeah, I'm okay." I was a bit upset. When I came home, I put on some Beatles muziek to make myself feel better. I felt better, and one of my vrienden even told me a joke. She said, "What is the difference...

One dag during the summer, I decided to visit with Gavin. When I made it over there, his dog, Oliver, greeted me. I said, "Hi, Oliver! Where's Gavin?" The dog led me to Gavin. Gavin was resting under the boom in his backyard. I said, "You look comfortable, Gavin." I expected him to say, "I am," but he didn't. Oliver licked his face, but he didn't stir. I thought, "Oh, God! Has he passed out?" I knelt down beside of him and gently shook him. "Gavin!" I cried. "Gavin, are u okay?!" He opened his eyes and said, "Good morning!" I said, "Gavin, don't scare me like that!...

It was summer, and one day, Gavin came to me crying. I asked, "Are u okay?" He said, "No." I asked, "What's wrong?" He said, "My grandfather just died." I said, "Gavin, I'm so sorry." I hugged him. He continued to cry. I understood how he felt, since I had lost Pops less than two years earlier. Despite my fear of heights, I decided to fly to Liverpool with Gavin. His father asked, "Are u sure u want to do this?" I said, "Gavin was there for me when Pops died. It's my turn to be there for Gavin." His mother said, "That's very sweet of you, love." On the plane,...

One night, I heard that there was going to be a meteor shower. Bonnie, Gavin, and I went up a heuvel that was overlooking the high school, as it was a dark hill. After we saw the meteor shower, we looked down the heuvel towards the school. Bonnie said, "Ya know, that school seemed so big when I first started attending it, but looking down on it now, I realize how small it really is." I said, "Really?" She said, "Yeah. It seems like just yesterday when I was a freshman like u guys. Now I'm just four months away form graduating." Gavin said, "That's crazy. This time next...

It was the last dag of school before Christmas Break. At one point, I noticed that I was having some pain in my right side. Gavin asked, "Catherine, are u all right?" I said, "Yeah, I'm just fine. Why?" He said, "You're acting like you're hurt." I said, "Oh, I'm just having some pain in my right side. I'm probably bruised from where I slipped and fell on a patch of ice, no big deal." Jennifer overheard me and said, "Look, I'm not a doctor, but u should definitely go see one." I said, "I think I'll be okay. I'll see what happens tomorrow." The volgende day, the pain...

One day, I was visiting with my paternal grandparents. A thunderstorm was approaching as we were getting ready to leave. As I was walking to my aunt and uncle's car, I felt a bolt of lightning hit me. I felt the strike, and the volgende thing I knew, I woke up in my uncle's arms. He said, "Holy cow! I thought u were dead!" I said, "You did?" He said, "Yeah. u looked dead." My aunt said, "You really did." I said, "That really hurt." My uncle said, "I think we should get u to a hospital just to be sure you're okay." Thankfully, I only had minor injuries. The doctor...

It was our first dag of high school. Gavin and I were quite nervous, to be honest. The dag started out badly. I heard someone make fun of Gavin's accent. The bully asked, "What's up with the cheesy accent?" Gavin replied, "I'm from England, Liverpool, to be exact." The bully said, "Oh, you're from that town where those insects are from. That explains your trashy haircut. u should be beaten for that." I walked up to the bully and said, "If u hurt Gavin, u better make plans for me to hurt you." The bully ran in fear and never bothered us again. Later, I got punched...

I was reluctant to include the eighth grade in the story. There weren't too many good things that happened that year. The only good things that happened that jaar were a couple of new vrienden that I made and the fact that I made straight A's. Everything else that happened was bad. The worst thing that happened that jaar was the death of my maternal grandfather. Although my mother died in childbirth, her parents still wanted to have a relationship with me. I was close to Pops, (that's what I called him). I did at times think he needed to be knocked off of his pompous...

One day, in the seventh grade, I noticed some kids threatening to beat Gavin. I came up to the bullies and said, "Don't beat up my friend. If u want to beat up someone, do it to me." Gavin said, "Catherine, no! What are u doing?!" I said, "I'd rather it be me than you!" The bullies began beating on me. Gavin begged the bullies to stop, but his pleas fell on deaf ears. I was outnumbered, so I couldn't fight back. Gavin tried to physically get them off of me, but he was unsuccessful. I said, "Gavin, get out of here! They'll get you, too!" Gavin said, "Hold on, Catherine!...

Christmas Vacation was officially over, and we were back in school. Gavin and I were heading to our volgende class, and we saw someone being bullied. A group of kids punched a girl in the face, and she fell to the ground. Gavin said, "Come on, Catherine! Let's get those bullies away from her." I said, "I'm right behind you! I can't just stand and watch someone get bullied." We approached the bullies, and Gavin said, "Back off! I've got crutches, and I'm not afraid to use them!" The bullies walked away. I helped the girl to her feet and asked, "Are u okay?" She said, "Yeah....

A couple of months passed, and Gavin and I became really, really close, but one day, there was something in the air. Whatever it was, Gavin and I got into a horrible argument. I don't remember what we were arguing about, but we zei some cruel things to each other. I dare not repeat them. I went home pagina crying. Later, I decided to make up with Gavin. I went across the straat to his home. His mother answered the door. I said, "I need to talk to Gavin. I want to make up with him." She said, "I'll tell him you're here." A few minuten later, she returned and said, "He's gone."...
