The other penguins were sleeping, but Kowalski couldn't find any slumber. He was too busy swimming in his thoughts.
He was in his lab that night wondering about how the others thought about him for the umphteenth time. Private recently told him that he looks up to him, which gives him a bit of straal, ray of sunshine in his mind, and Rico just thinks about fish, last time he checked. The teammate he worries about the most, though, is Skipper.
For a long time now, Kowalski felt like he's been watched door Skipper, as if the leader was waiting for the scientist to screw up. He knows he's different from the rest of the team let alone his leader, since the others don't have the same scientific focus and intellect as he did. In fact, there have been times when he felt he was hated door his leader because of this difference in intellect. He felt this way for a mighty long time, but he's only drowned in his thoughts about it for about a week.
Whenever training came along, Kowalski would just focus too much about how he felt to pay attention to his surroundings. When Skipper caught that, he'd either try to slap some sense into him of yell to find out what was up. Now, if u were the kind of person who felt different from those closest to u because of how u thought, u could imagine how many times Kowalski would want to explain to Skipper how he felt about being treated like he was crazy. He wanted Skipper to see that, just because he thought differently, he wasn't less of a pinguïn than Skipper was. He wanted to slap Skipper harder than he's been slapped so that the leader could feel his lieutenant's pain. He wanted Skipper to see through his eyes. Then, Skipper would realize that it wouldn't be a surprise how upset Kowalski is.
Unfortunately, because of authority, Kowalski couldn't let Skipper know how he felt due to possible serious consequences. He felt like he was forced to keep how he felt held in, not only because of authority, because, as proven (in "Whispers and Coups" during Kowalski's presentation), Skipper wouldn't pay attention and minor conflict would come along.
At a time that was at most midnight, Kowalski came out of his lab and restlessly came to his bunk. When will Skipper know?
