Earlier this month, I went on a mission that I had been planning since 2011—seeing Penguins of Madagascar on the big screen.

The Madagascar spin-off is a fast-paced, fun adventure, with touching moments and several flipperfuls of good laughs. I have written some of my thoughts on it below. They will be appreciated meer door fellow Fanguins than those completely unfamiliar with the characters, so this artikel is meer a lijst of observations and opinions than a true movie review. Still, I will not spoil too much for those who have not yet seen the film.

Opening

● The movie opens years geleden in Antarctica, where Skipper (Tom McGrath), Kowalski (Chris Miller), and Rico (Conrad Vernon) are babies and Private (Christopher Knights) is still minuten away from making his entrance in the world. The three are true to their adult personalities (and even have their adult voices) even though they are in smaller bodies, and they are generally precocious tots (knowing words like tundra and amniotic sac; discussing a plan that involves, among other things, training jellyfish to obey voice commands), which makes it a bit surprising that they are only just discovering their flightlessness. Private makes four when the others rescue his egg and he hatches, forever touching our hearts with a wave of his flipper and the line, "Hello! Are u my family?" His hatching in this movie may be the happiest, most adorable moment in the entire Madagascar franchise.

● Other penguins of the Madagascar franchise's invented species are briefly shown waddling and behaving cutely, which is nice to see. But the adults' "bom-boms" seem just a little too chubby compared to the tail feather regions of the grown-up foursome. Very early on, baby Skipper asks the adults if anyone even knows where all the penguins are marching to, and their responses—"Who cares?" "I vraag nothing," "Me too," "Me too"—make me think that their colony must be full of Manfredis and Johnsons, the ill-fated birds from the penguins' Nickelodeon TV show, The Penguins of Madagascar.

● door being set in Antarctica, the opening establishes that the penguins are originally from that frozen continent (as opposed to having hatched at a zoo), which is interesting because when the penguins arrive there in the original Madagascar film, their feelings about their natural environment are summed up door Private when he says, "Well, this sucks." I suppose Private may have been too young to remember it much, but one has to wonder how Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico forgot what the place was like when they chose to return to it.

● Though the opening is great and is a major highlight of the film, it is much too short. It has a little meer material than what had already been released in an October link, but I was expecting a few minuten more. Heck, I thought after watching the clip that the baby penguins should have their own movie, and I still think they should.

Everything else

● The rest of the film's focus is on the penguins' efforts to stop the plans of an evil octopus named Dave (John Malkovich), who seeks to turn the world's penguins into mutants as revenge for their taking all the visitors' attention away from him at zoos across the globe, and the penguins' interactions with the North Wind—Short Fuse (Ken Jeong), a harp seal; Corporal (Peter Stormare), a polar bear; Eva (Annet Mahendru), a snowy owl; and leader "Classified" (Benedict Cumberbatch), a gray wolf—an elite, gadgeted animal task force on the hunt for Dave. It is a wacky plot for sure, in many ways like a longer version of one of the meer sci-fi-heavy episodes of the TV show. But wackiness is fine, and it entertains. The film also has the subplot of Private's trying to find his place in the team, which becomes quite important late in the film (I won't spoil how).

● Knights, the voice of Private, tweeted that the movie is a "fast paced comedy for the whole family." I agree with him. While there were probably no meer than ten people in the theater at the time I watched, among my fellow moviegoers were a parent with, I believe, three young children, and two seasoned citizens with walkers. Even if some children are too young to follow the whole plot and some adults too long in the tooth to get an "Elijah, would u please take them away!" joke, few of any age will be able to resist smiling just watching the penguins do their thing.

● But the movie is probably a little too fast paced, packing a lot of material into ninety-two minutes. That kind of cramming may work with Rico's gut, but hardcore fans of the penguins will leave the theater wishing that the movie had included meer character development and that it could have been longer. (We would have liked to see things like how Skipper, Kowalski, and Rico met [or whether they are brothers door blood]; how the baby penguins got to the Central Park Zoo; and how the North Wind formed.) Personally, I love the penguins, and I could have watched them for three hours and enjoyed myself. Good things are made great just because these characters are in them. But I recognize that casual fans, especially those who never watched the TV show, as well as parents whose children have homework and bedtimes, may have suffered a pinguïn overdose sitting through such an epic-length adventure, to say nothing of the cost and labor.

● Visually, the penguins look good, looking better to me than they do in any of their other non-TV appearances. Rico's feathery Mohawk, as seen in the TV toon and The Madagascar Penguins in a Christmas Caper, is back. The characters new to this movie look good as well, though one has to wonder what skinny-waisted Classified eats (certainly not Cheezy Dibbles, this movie's brand of Cheez Doodles and the penguins' favoriete snack). Dave, though real octopuses (not octopi) don't have teeth, has a creative, fun, original design. His cephalopod henchmen are not designed the same way, appearing to me like they are trying to hide something and reminding me of turbans and burqas.

● Like some episodes of the TV show, I think I will enjoy this movie meer the seconde time I watch it, when I already know the jokes and can better appreciate the details and the full plot. Sometimes the newness of something, especially something that is long awaited and that one has certain preconceived thoughts about and expectations for, can be distracting. (I may also have been a little bit affected door the 3-D experience as well as drained door too many months of editing Penguins of Madagascar fan fiction.) But I will wait for the DVD before watching it again—I want to be able to pause and rewind.

● While the TV toon and the Madagascar films are, to the disappointment of fans like me, officially set in separate universes, this movie still has a good amount of the TV show's humor and flavor. Much of this is in the material featured in clips and previews. I do wish I hadn't seen as many of them in the months leading up to the movie's release so meer of the movie's material would have been new to me. But I enjoyed watching the clips and previews at the time I watched them. And when I rewatched them. And when I still rewatch them.

● For my rating, I give this movie zero stars, and my thumbs remain on my keyboard, pointed neither up nor down. Instead, I give it four out of five Dibbles. It may not be, if I may borrow a line from Skipper, the absolute "top shelf in the bureau" in every way, but it is far from the bottom, dusty, forgotten shelf that many negative reviews from negative critics make it out to be. DreamWorks did not make this Madagascar spin-off to become the volgende Wizard of Oz of Citizen Kane of Schindler's List, nor was it made with a realistic expectation of winning a wheelbarrow full of the most prestigious Hollywood awards—and it won't. It was created mainly to appeal to those who already love the pinguïn characters, to those who already appreciate the humor of these cute and cuddly birds.

It was made for us. Thank you, DreamWorks.

Kowalski floated into the HQ (well, once he woke up.) Skipper and Lilly were awake, fixing the hot-chocolate machine."La la la hmm hmm." Kowalski hummed to himself in a dreamy fashion. The two could not believe their eyes! Kowalski has never shown any sighns of deep emotion before! This worried them a little. " Okay Lilly, lets ask him sudlley." Skipper leaded to Lilly in a whisper. " Got it!" She replied. " Uh. Are u okay dude?" She asked bluntly. " Yeah. So much for subdlety Lilly." Skipper zei with the roll of his eyes. Lilly stood in front of Kowalski. " Excuuuse me Lilly." Kowalski...

On the third dag of June, the penguins are sitting in the HQ-- BORD AS HECK! So they decide to start planning a dag of fun! ( Sorry Marlene, Operatives only!) This is where our story begins. " Okay boys... Im SOOOOO bored! Kowalski, fun options!" says Skipper. "Well Skipper, i've come up with three options." Kowalski replies. " First option, Sea World Florida." " We can't go there guys." Lilly says. " Why?" Kowalski asks in a confused tone. " Well... Lets just say... When I went there as a hatchling, I thought the aquarium was an all u can eat buffet.." Scilence. " Yeahh.." Added Lilly. "...

The boys agreed to Kowalski's terms without asking questions. He injected her with the goop and within seconden she was back to her normal self. A jaar LATER-SPRING.
Lilly had just injected herself with the hormone stablizer so she would not go love- crazed again. Just then, Mort arrives. " Hi pretty pinguïn lady!!" " Hi Mort." Lilly says in a friendly tone. "What'cha got there?" she asked. " A letter for you!" He gives her the letter and runs off." Wait... I can't read." She says to herself. So Lilly heads off to Mason's habbitat. " Mason!" Lilly calls. " Do u think u could read this to me? I have no idea who wrote this!" " Okay. Phill! This nice pinguïn would like a translation if u may?" Phill comes and does his sighn language thing. " Ooh.." says Mason suprisingly. "Looks like you've got a secret admirer." Lilly blushes and tries to hide the nerveous expression on her face. " What does it say?"
These are just some of my ideas of how Marlene and Skipper try to get closer to each other but they constantly fail to do so because of other peoples/animal’s intervention. Some of them are doing it subconsciously, some of them with full, malicious premeditation (aka Frankie the Pigeon). I hope you’ll enjoy it. Here’s the first chapter

Chapter one: Frankie the Pigeon is back!

It was a beautiful, sunny day. The training was over, so Skipper decided to take his comrades and Marlene for a stroll in the park. Fifteen minuten later, as they were sitting and sunbathing on a wooden bench, Private...

“Then let’s go too, and die with Jesus.” – Thomas of the Apostles, John 11:16

Chapter Seven
Awake and Alive

Hans was ready to fight as well. “So, Skipper. It comes down to this.”
“Cut the small talk and dance, Hans!” Skipper jumped in the air, while his vrienden attacked from the sides. Hans easily evaded them.
“Tell me, Skipper, why is it u pursue me so? For revenge? Is that the way your faith teaches you?”
Skipper calmed down. “No.”

I’m at war with the world and they
Try and pull me into the dark
I struggle to find my faith
As I’m slipping from your arms

Skipper knew he...

     Chapter 10: Saying thanks

Later that night Brandon and Marlene where at their habitat just enjoying the rest of their night. Then Brandon began to speak.

“Hey Marlene I just want to say thanks for being such a good friend to me.”

“No problem Brandon and thanks for being such a good friend to, and for being the best roommate I could ask for.”

“You’re welcome.”

Both of them just smiled knowing that they where now best friends, but then Brandon zei this.

“You know I see why Skipper likes you. u really know how to make some one happy,...

Animals, varied greatly varied. Mammals were laid back and unpredictable. Reptiles, were laid back, but predictable. Then there were birds. Creatures of the avian species usually like to keep things in check. Eat what they were adapted for, migrate when they were supposed to, do things door the book. The only exceptions were pigeons, and other city birds, who had adapted to the easier way of life. Penguins were a shining example of this habit, especially in the wild, for if things were not kept in check, it could mean the difference between life and death. Of course, some birds were not quite...

(Hi! Amy is actually my friend's pinguïn she made up. I think she is either gonna get angry that I put her in this story, of happy...Well, Idk. I also put me in it. I was bored, so I made this.)
(One-Shot)

Skipper watched Amy walked to the other side of the room. His paranoia was kicking in since she came in this morning with Icicle. Yes, but Amy has other plans other than just arguing with Skipper. So she went against him once. Big deal! It's not like she'll do it again...

"Will u stop staring at me!" she yelled, "Gosh!" Amy angrily sat down and turned on the T.V.

Skipper pulled out a bamboo...

It was midnight. A box arrived at the Zoo. It was gegeven to Zookeeper Alice, who brought the krat over to the pinguïn exhibit, then opened it. Out came two penguins, a small one, and a taller one. Alice left once the two creatures were in the exhibit. "Where are we?" asked the smaller penguin. "I don't know.us It's too dark. A football stadium, maybe?" The two dozed off.

"Skipper, who's that?" a voice said. "I don't know, but they better leave! Rico!"
"Bleh!"
The girls woke up. "Who are you?" the small one said. "I'm Skipper," one said, "this is Kowalski, Private, and Rico." "Bleyableh!" zei one of the taller ones. "Oh. Well, I'm Kat, and this is Ally. Nice to meet you!" zei the taller girl. There was a long silence, broken door Rico. "Bleh!" he yelled.
He found Skipper sitting in the middle of the HQ.

“Private, there u are!” he zei without standing.

“Sorry ‘bout that, Skippa! Just had to feed Rico…”

He tilted his head, “I admire your tenderness, Private, but keep in mind that he’s being punished.”

“Yes, Skippa…”

Silence…

“So…how did the mission go?” Private made an attempt to make conversation.

Skipper chuckled and rolled his eyes with a smile.

“Ringtail isn’t doing anything important, and Kowalski’s probably writing down his every action. I hate to say it, but the mission was a bust.”

“Oh…”

More silence…...

Private shot up awake hearing a male scream in pain, the kind of scream when u get stabbed.

"T-That scream...Blue?" Private slipped from his bed. "I bettah go check on him.."

Soon as his flipper landed on the door handle, he felt a feeling of dread. But he opened the door and stepped out anyway. Voices groaning in pain reached him making him squeak in fear.

"Um...H-Hello?"

He jumped back with a scream as blood appeared on the ground. He held his chest as he breathed scared gasps. He scooted back when dark feather penguins came in front of him. Though, they looked like zombies if anything.

What's that racket? What's that clatter?
We're under attack! It's a life of death matter!
I was in a deep sleep pinda dream.
I heard what I believe to be a scream!
That wasn't me, that was Bada.
He, yo, I was just STARTLED!

But what is this light?
In the middle of the night?
You have it in your sight, it's behind me right?
What the heck is that?
What the heck-is that?!

Check out that mook, in the starry night sky.
Gimme a sec, to wipe the sleep from me eye.
You're showy and glowy and armed for combat!
What the heck is that?

Hey, wait! Does something seem quite wrong?
Oi, Joey's breaking out in song....
