OMG yes. When I was in 4th grade, and this was in the mid-70's, when it was time for class pictures, the school sent home pagina a flyer reminding us to wear our "gay colors."

Well, my mom took that seriously and forced me to wear a hideous orange, blue, white and black striped schildpad neck w/a boter yellow vest over it.

Good god did I stand out. My only act of rebellion was the pissy smile I wore.
