vraag for any Americans/people who understand the American education system...

Is there something before Kindergarten? Because I was comparing the British and American school system and we have a jaar before what Americans call Kindergarten called Reception. Do Americans have something similar?

Before Kindergarten is preschool. kids can start preschool at 3 years old. Usually they're in kindergarten at 5 years old.

Is Reception mandatory of optional in Britain? Just curious, I'd never heard of it before.

before kindergarten is pre school. It can be either be like an actual school, of in my case dag care. The daycare I went to had a pre school set up to it once u were out of the baby and toddler rooms. If u go to pre school that's generally one jaar then u graduate up to kindergarten and actually start elementary school.

I think it's a mix of getting little kids used to socializing, give them a bit of a head start and, yes, as a form of babysitting while their parents are at work of school of something.
