That no matter what he has done everything can be forgiven. The things he did without his soul, while they may be horrific, were NOT him. The soul is the essence of who we are and without it he was not really Sam. He was just an empty vessel. Our bodies are the vessels for our souls. He couldn't be held accountable for anything he did while inhabited door Lucifer as he was just a vessel. Soulless works the same way.
