found the former Disney star pulling a variety of levers in an effort to find a dance-floor smash; she worked with StarGate on "Come & Get It," Rock Mafia on the title track and the Cataracs on "Slow Down," among other uptempo maestros. With "I Want You To Know," Gomez has finally hit her mark, with EDM whiz (and rumored boyfriend) Zedd supplying the heavy synth drops to buttress her omnipresent slogans. The song is the first single from Zedd\'s forthcoming sophomore album, and will likely appear on Gomez\'s next musical project as well.
Like past Zedd hits "Stay The Night" and "Clarity," "I Want You To Know" makes time for its female vocalist to establish the primary hook before the electronica kaleidoscope comes crashing in. Gomez has never been known as a vocal powerhouse, but she deftly handles patently overdramatic lines like "You and me, bleed the same light" and "It\'s raining tonight/But storms always have an eye, have an eye" with the proper amount of yearning and unflappability. When that first drop does arrive about 80 seconds in, Zedd provides a swiveling party scene with a whiff of Daft Punk\'s maximalist disco thrown in for good measure.
"He crushed it," "I Want You To Know" co-writer Ryan Tedder said of Zedd earlier this month. "I went on a run today and listened to it on repeat in my headphones. And Selena did a bang-up job. She killed it."
While Gomez scored a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 last year with the somber "The Heart Wants What It Wants," Zedd scooped up a featured credit on Ariana Grande\'s Top 10 hit "Break Free." "I Want You To Know," which was released to iTunes on Monday (Feb. 23), will receive a proper music video in the coming weeks.
