BBC's modern take on Sherlock Holmes to get new series

THE BBC is to make a new series of its hit Sunday night remake of Sherlock Holmes, it has been confirmed.

The show, created by Scots Dr Who showrunner Steven Moffat and League of Gentleman star Mark Gatiss, has proved a summer ratings success for BBC One.

And the show's producer Sue Vertrue confirmed that a second season of the modern Holmes would be made.

"There will be more," she said.

"We're having a meeting, just to sort of talk about how many and when really. Steven and Mark are both busy.

"Obviously Steven is doing Doctor Who as well so it's just when we are going to do them."

But any new episodes of the show, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and The Office's Martin Freeman as Watson, will be at least a year away, the BBC warned.
