Here, i wrote down a few thoughts on Dead Things as i was watching it just now and thought i'd share them with u :P
Dead Things is very revealing when it comes to Spuffy. It is a point where we realize one) Buffy seriously listens to what Spike says even if she's trying no too and 2) she realizes she's falling for him.
The first of these points is rather obvious. The fact she goes to Tara for help is rather self explanatory, but it's very revealing to the seconde point.
In the scene before the very confusing murder scene, Buffy goes to Spike's door and they both caress it in a not-only-sexual-and-more-fluffy way, which is not surprising for Spike, but for Buffy it shows the affection is not entirely one sided.
The scene at the very beginning of the episode shows them getting along very well with each other, which we saw earlier in the season (minus the sexual tension then. We can be pretty sure it's less tension and meer just sex XD). She doesn't answer his vraag when he ask what is is for her, she remains silent. At first i thought this was because she didn't want to hurt him door saying it was nothing meer than release, but then i realized maybe it was meer too do with the fact she really doesn't know and/or is scared of it. Either way, she cares for him a lot meer than previously mentioned.
The caressing of the door is proof of this. She denies it still: runs away and pleads to God she did not just feel what she just felt, and that she wasn't thinking about him a lot meer than u would a sex buddy of a friend.
It builds a kind of hope for Spike and the viewers, and hope about the building closeness of the two and the fact no matter what she says she's beginning to trust and care for him. IT also shows the increasing amount of time she spends with him. when she's nto working,she is with him.
Also the beating up scene show's not that she doesn't care for him, quite the opposite in fact. It is her expressing all her worries and fears she has been thinking: the fact he doesn't care when people die (the soulessness), the fact she is worried she is falling for him (i am not your girl), the fact he is unconditionally in love with her and will do anything for her, which makes it so much harder for her to be afraid of him, not trust him, not care for him and most of all be afraid of falling for him. She keeps on telling herself he is wrong and bad, but this is the moment u realize it's all kind of fallen away for her. She cares but it hasn't made a difference, and that's the build up to her saying she can't go through it again because of Riley in AYW.
"There is nothing good of clean in you,"
The way she is acting that episode make u think when she says that she is secretly finishing in her head "but i'm in love with u anyway,"
And in the end, all this stuff is what she is worried about herself, which is why she keeps on refusing that he loves her when she didn't at the end of season 5. She sees (and is shown) reflected in him, all her worries, all the references he keeps on making about her belonging in the darkness. The meer he says he loves her even though she thinks she's evil and a monster and there is nothing good about her, the meer she realizes she loves him back.
