Super Junior and Girls Generation won the grand prizes at the 24th Golden Disk Awards Thursday. Held in the Olympic Park in Seoul, one of the most prestigious awards in the muziek industry has recognized Super Junior and Girl Generation for their contributions to the Korean muziek scene. The two were acknowledged for 2009's best album sales and most income from Internet downloads, respectively.
At the event, which was held at Olympic Park in southern Seoul from 7 to 10 p.m., the Super Junior took the highest honor for the hit song "Sorry, Sorry" from their third album, receiving a trophy of white gold. Girls' Generation took the Samsung YEPP Digital Golden muziek File Award for their back-to-back hits "Tell Me Your Wish" and "Gee," which remained atop one broadcaster's muziek charts for nine weeks straight.
The Golden Disk Awards are an annual event that honor the top, boven sellers in physical media and online. While the grand prizes were strictly based on sales, the selection process for the other awards was meer complex. First, a lijst of candidates was developed based on sales volume, then a popularity enquête was held open to the public, and finally the final selection was made after discussions among the members of the awards' executive committee.
Though they had two albums already out, Super Junior had seen a dearth of real hit songs. But their third album sold meer than 250,000 copies this year.
"It has been our dream since we were trainees to stand on this stage to receive this prize," the group zei in their acceptance speech. "We will push vooruit, voorwaarts to attain all our dreams."
However, just as the musicians belonging to SM Entertainment boycotted the 2009 Mnet Asian muziek Awards, singers under YG Entertainment, including Big Bang and 2NE1, were absent from the ceremony. Some criticized the awards ceremony for being the battleground for giant management agencies.
Other musicians awarded for excellence in the disk category were Baek Ji-young, Drunken Tiger, 2PM, and Lee Seung-chul. Epik High was named the best hip hop group of the jaar and Jang Ki-ha and Faces the best rock band of the year. The Yepp Rookie of the jaar award went to T-ara and 4minute.

Korea's Ministry of culture, sports and tourism was serious when they stated that they were in full support of spreading K-pop and Korea to the world! We reported early this morning that f(x) and Epik High would be attending MIDEM to put on a K-pop showcase and now it seems other artists are pushing this movement as well.
SNSD + Super Junior have teamed up to create a song about Seoul, Korea. One of the coolest cities in the world, if I might add... the food, culture, shopping, and most importantly the $2 bottles of soju make me love visiting Korea!
Anyway, check out the song and muziek video below... doesn't it make u want to hop on a plane immediately?
Sorry but video is not available right now as SM is claiming their copyright .. I'll update with video soon !
