DEAN'S at the top? Huh. Interesting. Personally, I don't think Dean is that emotionally strong. Bottling stuff up and hating yourself does NOT count as strong. I did appreciate how in the last episode, he firmly chose to stop moping around and find a way to get his brother back; and he IS hanging in there, but I'm looking at all the previous seasons as well.

Not that I'm complaining. I love me some angsty goodness. xD

I truly think Bobby is the strongest of all of them. Yes, he's had his own share of depression and weak moments, but for the most part, he's always had his head screwed on straight and his feet planted firmly on the ground. He tackles life's hardships with common sense, resilience, a healthy dose of snarkiness and no complaining.

Hands down, Bobby wins the tough-guy award for me! (Castiel comes in a very close second, though...)

Three words: Weekend at Bobby's.

The Winchesters are great guys and wonderful protectors, and they're tough and all, but Bobby's the strong father figure of the story.

I am a diehard Dean fan, but he is definitely not the strongest character on the show. His emotional vulnerability is one of the main reason I was drawn to him in the first place. He's got severe self-esteem issues, abandonment issues, etc. That's not to say that he isn't strong but I'd have to say that Bobby is stronger. He's by far the most well-adjusted, resilient, steadfast person on the show. Like Dearheart said, he's got his head screwed on straight and his feet on the ground. Not to mention he's just a total BAMF. lol

well, as much as i love Dean, i goota give this to Bobby..and i think fanfly summed-up pretty much everything is to say about him

Dean is first, really??? Wow I must be watching it differently..

I was going to choose Bobby but then I remembered Dean having to talk Bobby out of killing himself (or considering it) and I think the way I view Bobby is that he's the most level headed.

But strongest? I look at it like this....who's been through the most? Who's come through it the best? Without losing who they are/ their sense of right and wrong?

Well for me that's Dean. He doesn't think much of himself, he thinks he's worthless and not worth a damn, that his dad didn't really love him and that Sam never really needed him and I can see why someone would think that might not make him strong.

But the way I see it is despite feeling like that, despite having that crushing sense of self doubt ALL THE TIME he gets through it and get's on with it. Not only does he survive all types of shit and deal with so much loss but he does it while feeling like he's worthless and weak - and that is just incredible. I think that goes beyond strength - hell thats fucking super-strength.

It's true...when you factor in how Dean continues to perservere in spite of his issues, he really is the strongest among them. Bobby has a level head but when he was faced with paralysis and felt worthless, he came very close to suicide. Dean's self-worth has been in the dump since he was a kid but he kept putting one foot in front of the other for years. Dean's had a few reckless moments due to his issues and it's true he's thought of giving up at times but he's always dug deep and found the strength to keep going in the face of all odds.

I agree with you completely @SG1-090, that was my thinking of it too! I mean out of all of them Dean has been through the most (I think and you can disagree with me on that) and he is the one who kept going. No matter what life threw at him, he just keeps going. Even though at times he has felt like giving up (like when he almost gave into Michael) he drew support from those around him and their faith in him...which I think makes him the strongest out of everyone. The fact that Dean still gets up everyday and faces the world is enough to make me see his strength of character. I see his vulnerability too, but it's his vulnerability and his humanity that make him so strong...I realize I am saying that is is weaknesses that makes him strong, but I really believe that.

I would have to say John is probably at least a really close second to Dean...I mean the guy survived 100 years of torture in Hell, that deserves a few props.

Dean's on the top???? That puts me in a lot of thinking actually... I really have my doubts about him. I see Bobby and Sam as much stronger characters.

But SG1 pointed out that it's not really about what kind of issues the characters have, it's about how they keep going in spite of them.

Bobby has always been grounded; confident and level-headed. He's very strong because of that.

Dean's self-esteem has always been low. He has very little self-worth. But he's strong in spite of that. He keeps going even when he feels worthless or when he doesn't think they can win. He still keeps going.

Dean is on the top,because he is still here after all.After all those hard moments! He has been through a lot more than Sam and the others.And he is still holding on.Just my opinion,don't judge.

Also John and Sam! But Dean is the strongest! He went to hell and was bearing unbearable torture! It's totally enough to consider him as the strongest character!

I mean, I'm a Sam girl, but I think Dean is a stronger personality type. We learnt the bad way that Sam is easily influenced *cough Ruby cough* without the guidance of his brother, and even though he was strong enough to stand up to John, which is more than Dean ever did, it is undeniable that he relies on family just as much, if not more, than Dean

Dean has always had to be strong, he bought Sam up as John went hunting. Dean kept the family together as long as he did comming inbetween John and Sam. No matter what life throws at him he pulls through. I love Dean's strength,not saying he is perfect far from it,but giving a choice i would always pick Dean
