The Kids Don’t Know
Chapter 10
We Dropped the Charges, But We still go to Court(ney)
“Trent, isn’t it enough u abuse us, but now-” I began. But then a thought came into my head. If he is suing mom that means… “You are my FATHER?!!?” I ask-yelled. “Elle, that’s what the test said.” Mom said. She was on the verge of having a mental breakdown. “And” She started, “Dominic is Trent’s now.” What? This is NOT happening! He is an abuser, and hates us! “No!” I yelled. “Get away!” I yelled at Trent when he tried to hug me. “I am your father!” He yelled. Then he punched my ribs. Closed fist. “Yeow!” I yelled out. “Trent! u might be her father, but I am her mother! YOU. WILL. NOT. HIT. MY. CHILDREN!” Mom yelled at Trent. I felt my rib crack, but I went to my room anyway. I dialed 3 numbers: 9-1-1
Whoop! Whoop! Whoop! That was the police siren. “N.Y.P.D.! Open up!” I heard when I came back downstairs. I ran to the door, but Trent pulled me back. “Hello officer.” Trent said. “We received a call saying somebody needed medical attention.” Trent looked at me with daggers, but then said, “Yes, I hit my daughter and broke her rib. Arrest me.” I looked at him with wide eyes, and then two people led me to a gurney. “Alright Evelyn, the good news is u did not break your rib, but u have a very bad bruise.” I smiled at that, when Duncan walked in. “Duncan Gray u are under arrest.” What? What did he do? “What did u do?” I asked, even though my rib hurt. “I didn’t do anything!” Dad yelled. “You beat your son and daughter!” The cop said. “What? Dad didn’t hurt me of Dominic!” I yelled. They won’t take him to jail again. “Since when do u care, Elle?” Trent asked, popping out from behind a curtain. “He is my dad! I’ve always cared!” I said. “You know what, drop all charges. Drop them!” My mom yelled. “Are u sure miss?” The officer asked. “I zei drop them didn’t I?” So the police released dad, nothing was put on anybody’s criminal records, but that might have been the biggest mistake mom made.
“Thank you, Elle.” Trent sneered. “You know, Mom has to have custody right?” I countered. Dominic was there too, and Dad was playing bodyguard. “Not if I can take u away.” Trent zei viciously. “Not if I can prove u aren’t my father!” I yelled back, with just as much venom as Trent. Dad stood up in between us. “Elvis, its time for u to go.” Dominic and I looked at each other. I could practically see the light bulb in his brain. “What?” I asked. “We are going to fix this!”
That was the best, most creative and stupidest idea ever. “You honestly think that will work?” I asked him. “Um, no. But hey, u never know, right?” he replied. I smacked the back of his head and said, “Fine, we will break into the hospital.” And we did. I woke up at around midnight, put on my black jeans, turquoise tank top, and my black vest. “Ready, Donnie?” I asked. He rolled his eyes.
A few minuten later, we were at the hospital, looking through JPG files. “Here it is! Danni Gray, Evelyn/Derek Deere, Trent/ Oscar Gray, Dominic BTF.” Man! That was a MOUTHFULL! “In English please, Captain Know-It-All.” Dominic said. Its true though, I am a know it all. “The pic of the blood test results. Duh!” he stuck his tongue out at me, then I opened the file. “Oh my God! That nurse lied! Trent isn’t our father!” I yelled out. Dominic took the muis from me and clicked the money icon. “What are u doing?” I hissed. “Aww, crap! It requires a password!” He whisper-yelled. “No duh! Did u expect the screen to say ‘Welcome intruder, u can have my banking files’?” He gave me a look, and I pulled out my phone. “’Shequa, u are a nerd right? Ok, ok, but I need your help! Umm, we broke into the hospital. Uh, huh. Ok, I get it. Ok, bi.” Oh man, LeShequa is the best! “I got the password!” I quickly typed in C-H-A-I-R-C-A-N-T. Instantly it zei all of the transactions made. The most recent one; $500 dollars gegeven from two different bank accounts: Deere, Trent and McLean, Christopher.
We are going to court. My family is on the line. My oh-so-wonderful stepmom is my lawyer, and I still haven’t told anybody I have the foto's of the computer at the hospital. I agreed with Dominic we would take jail if we got to stay with our parents. “And, Your Honor, Trent Deere could not have been anywhere near New York.” Courtney finished. Then the Judge said, “And the verdict is…”
