‘The Flash’: Time Travel to Be Introduced in Episode 15
has successfully expanded the growing DC television universe and developed a tone very different than its parent show
. In its first season, the new series has made some interesting choices, including an ongoing mystery surrounding Reverse-Flash and Mark Hamill’s surprise reprisal of The Trickster from the 1990s
mythology that fans have wondered about is the character’s frequent run-ins with time travel. Executive producer Greg Berlanti previously mentioned that the concept of time travel would play a significant role in season 1, and now we know exactly when it will be introduced on the show.
, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg hints at what the second half of
‘s first season will entail. Here’s what he had to say:
“There’s an unexpected, accidental time travel coming up. And it is played both for hilarity and darkness. It happens in an episode we’re really excited [about] — the first Weather Wizard episode with Liam McIntyre.”
star Liam McIntyre marks one of several Flash villains due to show up throughout the season, and his character will reportedly appear in episode 15 on a quest to avenge his brother’s death, as seen in the show’s pilot episode. Logically, the Weather Wizard seems to be the ideal vehicle to introduce the concept of time travel, as his journey nicely parallels that of Barry (Grant Gustin) himself.
While this initial episode will likely focus more exclusively on a series of events taking place during a particular point in time, we do have indications that the creative team behind
plans to fully take advantage of the complex device that is time travel in future episodes, even going so far as teasing trips to both the past and the future.
It’s an ambitious move to bring time travel into the show as early as its freshman season, but considering the show’s momentum is in full swing following its midseason finale (and its title character’s backstory already largely fleshed out), it makes sense to boldly push the narrative forward into the future… and the past.
, or is it too early to bring the concept into the show? Let us know in the comments section below.

I have to say, the producers of this show have made things very interesting, even more so than “Arrow”. And while there’s aspects of this show that I don’t like (Cisco for example), the next half of this season already looks to be epic.
Cisco could be a good character if written properly, maybe gives him some more dramatic weight like when he was reprimanded by Wells about the missing tech. As it is right now, his intended comedic dialogue feels forced.
The character, to me, just comes off as such a dork and gets on my nerves frequently. I agree they need to write him better.
SPOILER: Well it wouldn’t surprise me if they followed through with the Vibe route, look it up if you don’t know what I mean although it’s a pretty common hope at the moment, since it could make for some neato character development for Cisco.
Not familiar with Vibe until he was mentiuoned as this show was being created. Does not really sound that interesting or needed. Cisco is kind of too much of a homely grinning “what’s happening, dude” type of guy like this is Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure or something. If he is with Star Labs (which seems understaffed, by the way), he should impress everyone more as a smart scientist, not the kid around the lab who makes “neat-o” jokes, puts the cat out, and washes out the used milk bottles (not that they make ‘em out of glass much anymore).
You have no idea what your talking about.
Yes I do; you obviously don’t watch the show, or were out of the room at the time Cisco was on the screen making popcorn or something (putting the cat out? Washing the old glass milk bottles?). While I don’t hate the Cisco character, even though he looks like the kind of guy who would spit in your shake at the fast-food place he was working at, he still does not seem like the type of personality to be a virtual genius working as anything more than the janitor at Star Labs. And no, I don’t mean he has to have baboon hair like Einstein and make nuclear fission in the pop machine while on break in the lounge.
Wish they would stop splitting seasons into long periods of hiatus.
I get why, and Flash was a surprise hit and I am glad they took their time with it.
I think my parents are smart. They get the entire thing at once and never watch commercials or wait for weeks. Me? not so patient lol
midseason break, pretty much every show that begins in august/september, holiday break, or whatever you want to call it
Excited! Kind of curious what time period Barry will travel to, the past or the future?
Excited! I’m hoping they’ll do Flash Paradox one day.
Would like to see the Flashpoint story incorporated in this show, without the whole universe rebooting. Wonder if they do that and Barry altered the timeline saving his mother, does it effect Arrow? Like to see their own take of the “Flashpoint” Green Arrow rather than the one in the comics where Oliver created Green Arrow Industries and has a group of Green Arrows stealing weapons from other companies.
That could be a clever way to incorporate the TV universe into the cinematic using Flashpoint. To bad they’re still adamant to keep them separate.
Flashpoint has been something that I wanted to see them do but didn’t think it were possible for the shows to pull off successfully
However your idea of having these shows give us a flashpoint version of Green Arrow got me thinking of how it could work – since if they did Flashpont it should effect Arrow as well given the shared universe model
What if they ended a season of Flash with him going back in time to save his Mother – then the next season of Flash, Arrow and whatever other spinoff shows they have at that point (Atom, Vixen, etc) are all based in the Flashpoint universe
then end the Flashpont seasons with flash having to stop himself from saving his mother (that’s a big character development moment right there that Gustin could totally pull off IMO) and things go back to normal (or even change it slightly so that they can join the movies)
It would be an awesome way of changing up the established formulas of the shows – they could put the characters in different positions (maybe deathsroke the good guy rather than the villain), changing the casts slightly (no Roy Harper :), Digg working for argus perhaps, maybe Laurel moved to central city with her mum rather than staying in starling after the Queens Gambit sunk, what if Malcolm claimed Thea at an early age so she grew up a Merlyn rather than a Queen)
They could even try doing more drastic changes – since Green Arrow is CWs Batman type character what if Papa Queen survived and Ollie made it to but not off the island (that way they could still have Stephen Amell in the Flashbacks but his Dad under the Hood in the present)
Possible ways the flash show could change for flashpoint – Cisco switches places with Ronnie when the particle accelerator explodes and becomes Vibe, Catlin becomes Killer Frost somehow, Laurel being in central city could be significant (maybe she and Eddie date so Barry and Iris are together since he wouldn’t have moved in with the Wests)
For the midseason crossover Barry goes to starling to find the arrow and get Ollies help but it isn’t Ollie – then Robert and Barry track down Harrison wells in order to give Barry his flash powers again
that is really good point of view but if everything gets changed there will be less impact on the show. even though I agree with deathstroke can be a good guy and some other points,I think it is better the way it is. I think the flash is really doing good but arrow might need some changes to make it more interesting. Some changes in arrow can be made to make it better.
Like Oliver naming himself the “Green Arrow”?
Maybe he can name himself as green arrow eventually. Or maybe after they bring him back to life again in coming episode. this time they should try making him much more skillful of powerful. i know that show is centered within the seriousness but still the show has less pace than the flash. so, they can make changes to get some things exited. Also they can make couple of episode like Arrow fighting against Meta-Humans in Starling city as of now.
One problem is the viewers, to me anyway. Not a lot of people who watches Arrow go over and watch The Flash. If The Flash did Flashpoint and it effects over on Arrow, you’ll get some viewers confuse on what’s going on.
Though I am in for a Flashpoint story. For the idea of the Flashpoint Arrow, I don’t want to see a copy of having Robert Queen as The Arrow like Thomas Wayne as Batman. You can go many ways into this Flashpoint timeline, like Oliver and Slade didn’t have a falling out but instead stick together fighting side by side or Oliver is still the killer we knew from Season One, etc. Many possibilities.
In a few episodes we know that Wells is the reverse flash and that Barry went back in time to most likely save his mom from being killed.. and wells made the Particle accellerator to make the flash.. and he has stated. I just cant figure out whether he is a good guy or bad guy. I would love for him to either get more evil or more good. He is a conundrum
Well, one of the comic books Reverse-Flash’s (or was it Professor Zoom, not really matter) is a guy trying to make the Flash the best hero he can be, being a bad guy himself, so I guess CW’s Reverse-Flash is kinda based on that version.
Hunter Zolomon/Zoom is who you’re referring to. He is the Reverse-Flash to Wally West’s Flash. We don’t know what version of the Reverse-Flash they are going for, but I feel that it’s Eobard Thawne’s Professor Zoom since he is the one who did travel back in time and killed Barry’s mother.
Yeah, I know, but it seems more like they’re mixing them with each other, with Wells’ desire to help Barry develop his powers.
Yeah, the actor playing Wells said that it was him in the suit fighting Barry before the break but I think he or one of the producers said that there may be more people in the Reverse-Flash role during the show.
Wasn’t going to say anything until the Cisco bashing. I like him.
Me too. He’s easy to relate to since he’s not super serious and likes to try and have fun and make the best of a crazy situation (who here wouldn’t be constantly excited about the idea of metahumans surrounding you and getting to work out what makes them tick?).
I like him too. He mixes well with Barry’s character and helps to keep the show from being too dark and on comic book overload.
What you mean by that? I think it’s great their doing time-travel in The Flash.
Because time travel is kinda a gimmick nowadays, men in black 3, star trek, days of future past, terminator genesis, etc. Itso everywhere. But I would agree, this show has done it well.
I don’t watch the show, so I’m not in a position to criticize it. My point is more about the general over-use than a criticism. I liked Interstellar, Star Trek, DoFP, etc. MIB 3 had significant problems. Terminator is, obviously, a tired franchise, but can’t exclude time-travel.
It is so much, as you said, a writer’s “gimmick” lately. It is convenient for the purposes of rebooting a franchise. I hope it dies down a bit.
October 21, 2015 is the biggest day of the year for this guy (:-D)
If you don’t watch the show the why comment on it??? People are just getting dumber & dumber.
Actually, I want to see Kang (Marvel) come and snatch Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne from their (now-) earlier time-period, and deposit them in the present, where they must adjust much as Steve Rogers did, and become Avengers on the team as Goliath and Wasp.
Younger Hank and Janet would be cool to see in the MCU. Kang would be fascinating to see after Thanos. Maybe time-travel will have fallen out of vogue by Phase 4 and Marvel will bring it back.
Taa-Daa! Someone actually agrees with me on some point! It’s good to be king! Thanks, S4H1!
Darn it, I was really hoping they’d keep this one under wraps and surprise us.
I am ready for pretty much whatever the writers want to throw at us with this show, thoroughly enjoying it, despite some initial trepidation with the “rebooted” younger Barry Allen. I will definitely add this show to my DVD collection. Would like to see Mirror Master, Dr. Alchemy, possibly psycho Pirate, and possibly Time Commander appear on this show as villains eventually.
\\\\\\\\\\This Might Contain Spoilers even though it’s just a theory\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
Okey, this is just a theory for what I think will happen:
Wells is a mix between hunter zolomon and eowan thowne (Is that how it is spelt?).
Eddy is the Reverse Flash from the future. He went back to kill Barry when he was a child.
Older Flash travels back in time to stop the murder of his mother, but finds out that reverse flash tries to kill him instead so he has to sacrifice his mother in order to save himself. That can explain that the Flash is missing in the future. And I think that Eddy tries to kill Barry because he will probably find out that Barry got feelings for Iris in the next episodes, setting it up so that he will turn against him.
ok now…..eddy!!!!!… how is it possible man? He is a good guy and he wouldnt be killing Barry just because he love her. If he really wanted to kill him why would he go back to the past to kill him? why not use opportunities at the present or the future? And when the man in the yellow suit went to Barry’s mother Barry came in running down that means he wasnt after Barry as the man in yellow was already attacking his mother. The man in the yellow suit might be DR.Harrison wells or any other reverse flash and the flash himself saved himself from being killed first and failed to protect his mother. Or there might be another character existing exactly same as the Flash.
Sorry, but Barry is not that type of guy to sacrifice anyone especially his own mother. The future Flash who went missing, he probably sacrifice himself to save the world like he did in the comic “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.
yes, all his life it was his primary aim to catch the man who killed his mother and he wouldnt let anyone kill her infront of him. he may die fighting for her but he would never let it happen.
