Lizard Mutts, A New Teaser, and More 'Mockingjay' Highlights from Comic-Con
franchise will be in theaters in November, but before this crazy ride is over, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth still get to have some fun. On Thursday the three joined Francis Lawrence, Willow Shields, and host Conan O\'Brien at Comic-Con where they revealed new details about
, and talked about their experiences making the movies. Here are some of the highlights.
The panel opened with a whole lot of drummers walking out to get everyone amped up for a new District 13 propo. In the propo, District 13 soldiers dressed all in white drill/dance with their rifles before we see a figure walk toward the camera in a floor-length cloak. The figure is revealed to be Katniss, who slips off her cloak to reveal a new all red Mockingjay costume.
Conan O\'Brien is in town hosting his show live from Comic-Con, and he dropped into Hall H to host the biggest panel of the day, and had everyone cracking up the whole time. He warned people not to film the exclusive footage shown in the room before assuring them they didn\'t need to bother because he was filming it all with his iPhone and he\'d have it online in 40 minutes.
Director Francis Lawrence introduced the new never-before-seen trailer for
. Not surprisingly, it was packed with new reveals, including two very brief shots of the famous bloodthirsty lizard mutts from the
book. Another fan favorite character, Tigris, was briefly seen in the trailer.
The first trailer focused a lot on the booby-trapped city, and it looks like this will be the most action-oriented movie in the series. We got to see a lot of Katniss, Gale, and even Finnick fighting their way through the Capitol. It ended with silver parachutes raining down on a group of children in the Capitol.
Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, and Liam Hemsworth all have great chemistry together, so it was no surprise to see them laugh and joke through the panel. When Hutcherson started to get sappy about how much he would miss the cast and crew of the movies, Jennifer and Liam reached over and just put their hands all over his face.
When asked what he would say to Gale if he met him, Liam Hemsworth quipped, "It\'s all right mate. There\'s plenty of other fish in the sea."
6. None of These Stars Can Whistle the Mockingjay Call
The four notes of the Mockingjay call have reached iconic status among
fans, but when asked by a fan if they could all whistle it at once, no one exactly stepped up to the plate. Before trying it out, Liam Hemsworth explained, "Every time I try to do it, it comes out as the X-Files."
When Conan asked about Katniss\' "crossbow," Jennifer Lawrence immediately shut him down. "It\'s a longbow, not a crossbow! I\'m sorry, but a crossbow you can just pull the trigger. I didn\'t train months and months so I could be called a \'crossbower.\'"
8. Josh Hutcherson Kind of Liked Going Nuts in the \'Mockingjay\' Movies
"It was my first time playing crazy. [Laughs] So I really had to let loose. I don\'t really yell at anyone ever, and I had to do a lot of yelling at people in these movies. It was really intense. It was fun to let that energy out, and now I have the confidence that if I need to do that, I can go there."
9. Jennifer Lawrence Hasn\'t Really Said Goodbye to Katniss Yet
When asked by a fan how she said goodbye to her character, Lawrence replied: "I don\'t really feel like it\'s happened yet. It\'s such a huge part of my life. These movies really did change my life. These people are all in my life now. And you guys [Liam and Josh] challenged me. The changes that happened in my life from doing these movies are so permanent, it feels like they\'ll always be a part of me."
She says they wouldn\'t give her the actual bow she used in the final movie. "There\'s a rehearsal bow they tried to give me as if I wouldn\'t notice," she said. "I don\'t know what I\'d do with these artifacts if I had them sitting around my house, but yeah I feel a sense of ownership."
She also wants a keepsake from the first movie after seeing it in a museum exhibit of the movie\'s props. "You know what I do want and it\'s in the museum is the orange backpack from the first movie because I have so many memories of hiding my phone in it."
After giving a few meandering answers to fans\' questions, she summed up her interview answering style in one quip near the end of the panel. "I can\'t remember what your question is, but I thought that this could possibly answer it."
