Lion King cast sing Circle of Life on subway

After surprising passengers on a plane in April, the actors take their music underground

New York City\'s subway trains often play host to impromptu acts of street theatre or music, but a few weeks ago one got a taste of Broadway when the cast of The Lion King performed Circle of Life, the show\'s most famous number, for their fellow passengers.

The group of musical theatre stars looked like any other member of the public, until one woman made people jump by belting out the bold opening cry of Elton John\'s Oscar-nominated song.

It soon became clear that she was not absently singing alone as other members of the cast joined in from their seats and soon the entire subway carriage was filled with music.

The cast took to the city\'s underground to celebrate becoming Broadway\'s first $1 billion show. It tied in neatly with the fact that the subway served 1 billion riders last year.

However, it is not the first time a Lion King cast have surprised passengers on public transport. In April the iconic singalong was performed from the seats of Virgin Australia Flight 097, between Sydney and Brisbane, by the musical\'s touring cast. Perhaps London\'s tubes could be next?
