I guess he regret it because Elena as a vampire choose Damon....So that means from now he'll save everyone including Elena or maybe he'll let Damon save Elena and he'll choose to save Caroline this time. Or maybe he won't save anyone. Maybe he'll die also... Did i said that i don't know?
