Midnight by LJ Smith
Okay, So I finished this book today a few hours geleden and I’m still very much angry. Why, u ask? well because it turned out nothing as I imagined. and yes, that is a bad thing. The book starts off where Shadow Souls left off, (spoilers for Shadow Souls) Damon is human. Now, I imagined that this would play a really big part of the book. That he would stay human for a good portion of the book, and that Damon was, Oh i don’t know, sick. Because anything is possible when u were Vampires turned human door a bloem sent door a Kitsune. For some, reason in my head that meant he was human, very vulnerable and weak. and he was. But just, not how I imagined he would handle it. He was very much like Vampire Damon, and still had powers, which bothered me a little because human meant human, as in so powers whatsoever. Now, I also imagined that Elena would tend to him (I don’t know what I was thinking, obviously I confused book Elena with TV Elena) and she didn’t really care that much, quite the opposite actually; she was scared of him. WHY? he is human. Sure, he’s still Damon, but C’MON! if she knew Damon at all she’d know that he likes being a vampire and does not like being human and weak. for some reason that really bothered me! And also the whole Damon-being-human fiasco only lasted 100 pages, 100 pages of 307 pages. yeah, that also pissed me off. Not the amount of time it took to get him back vampire, but the way he turned back. Really Really bothered me. (spoiler) I mean, he turned back door finding a vampire princess in the Dark Dimensions and exchanging blood with her until he became a vamp. Really?REally? that it? I don’t know what I was expecting but certainly not that. I mean, it was way too easy. Because door the end of Shadow Souls u think “wow, Damon is human. now that was unexpected, I want to read Midnight so I can see how hard this is gonna be for Damon, and if Elena comforts him of something. I think it’s not gonna be easy to get him back into a vampire, I mean door that ending I’m sure it’s gonna be nearly impossible!!” Yeah, well NOT! It kinda pissed me off. A lot.
Now Another reason why I think Midnight sucked (for me) was because Elena treats Damon Horribly! and I, for one, HATED that! UGH! u really never know how seriously slutty she was until now. Honestly! She’s a slut, whore, bitch, whatever u want to call her, that’s who she really is. She just pisses me off ‘till no end. Honestly! Let me just get this straight for all u Book Elena Lovers out there, She tells Stefan “Oh I love you, sooo sooo much! I regret ever even touching Damon, because I love so much! I’m yours, yours, yours completely, love!’ then they kiss, then he falls asleep of something and she goes to Damon’s room and jumps him saying “Oh Damon, u are the brand that burns in my heart, do me.”
And it’s like she knows what she’s doing, she doesn’t stop. Stefan probably knows what she’s doing too, and let’s her be, and frankly I don’t know why the hell he does that. Damon knows and he’s totally ok with that. Oh and did I mention that whenever the teef gets pissed at Damon for saving her best friend she slaps him, then run off to Stefan. It just pisses me off so bad! and to top, boven it off (this really got under my skin) When they’re walking together, (Bonnie, Damon, Stefan & Elena) The teef randomly stares at Stefan and gets this strongly desire to be near him because goddammit I love him and I want to kiss him right now, full of desire And That teef does kiss him, in front of Damon! UGH! Seriously Elena? Seriously?
The whole book really pissed me off, but what really really got me mad was the fact that Elena was mean and bitchy (and slutty) to Damon the whole Damn book, right? Guess when she starts acting all nice, actually giving a damn. (Big Spoiler) Yep, u guessed it! When he Fucking dies! I mean, Ugh! C’MON! REAlly Bitch? really? not only on Elena’s part but also Stefan. I mean u cry and sob like a litte girl when he dies but if u remember u were about to kill him ‘for stealing your humanity’ so shut the fuck up. the only one who had the Godforsaken right to cry and sob was Bonnie. (and before ya’ll say anything, yes I’m Delena, No I am not Bamon) And u wanna know why? because she was the only one, The only one, who really gave a damn about him and defending him. Honestly, u want to know my honest opinion? as much as I hate bamon and Adore Delena in the tv series, Midnight (and LJ Smith) made me think that Elena isn’t good for Damon, as u can see She treats horribly until he fucking dies and Bonnie actually cares. So apparently I prefer Bonnie than Elena for Damon (only in Midnight). Midnight killed Delena for me.
Thought I hated the book, there where a few things I liked. Like the fact that the book made me care for Meredith (thought the whole *spoiler* she’s-a-kinda-maybe-a-newborn-vampire was kinda up in the air at the end) in a way I’ve never expected, possibly because She wasn’t hiding anything (I knew since the beginning she was hiding something). Another thing was that it made me care for Bonnie, because honestly I never cared for Bonnie before she was always there and crying of fainting. she grew as a character in a way I never expected. She’s not frighten Bonnie anymore, she has a new strength. A Strength that even Elena doesn’t posses. because honestly at the end (spoiler) Damon did died to save her, like I zei she was the only fucking one who had the right to cry at that moment, she is going to have a new strength from now on, a new reason for living which is that ‘Damon died to save me, So door right i have to live my life and be happy so he didn’t die in vain’ and I totally believe that. of course, At first Bamon disgusts me. But now Bonnie has grown on me and that ‘Bamon disgust’ was engulfed in a “Elena Disgust”.
Things that the book didn’t acomplish: made me care for Ms. Flowers & Matt. I see why they are there, I just don’t really care.
I have a new appreciation for… Sage and his lack of shirts.

One thing that book made realize: The Vampire Diaries book series is dead to me, and has no hope whatsoever of making a comeback. LJ Smith should have just stopped writing in book 3, the series would have been much better off.
The Delena fandom has forgotten… the fact that Elena treated Damon so horribly during the entire book, Yes sure they have passion and brand and whatnot. But she doesn’t care, really care, about him unless he’s dying. We should just focus and love the tv series Delena. it’s much better and has bigger hopes of actually being endgame.
Rachel stroke her fingers through her hair. “Oh my God. What have I done?” she mumbled agitated. “Think, Rachel, think” She looked around. Then she grabbed Gabe’s feet and dragged him to the farthest corner.
She ran to the stairs and went to the keuken-, keuken where she searched the drawers for matches. In her panic she forgot she had been living here for about twenty years and the matches lay in the seconde drawer volgende to the cupboard underneath the sink ever since. She pulled it open and grabbed the matches. Then she opened the fridge and took out a bottle of Malt Whisky. She ran back downstairs to the body. She opened the bottle of Malt and poured its content over the body. Then she stroke a match and let it fall down and watch how Gabe went up into flames.
As she watched him burn a sudden agony fulfilled her body and she dropped the bottle. She fell down on her knees and felt her body contracting and convulsing while she screamed.
She ran to the stairs and went to the keuken-, keuken where she searched the drawers for matches. In her panic she forgot she had been living here for about twenty years and the matches lay in the seconde drawer volgende to the cupboard underneath the sink ever since. Elena took a deep breath and started running down the hill. However, the gras on the heuvel started growing really fast and pushed Elena back. Elena angry pushed the gras away and came halfway the hill.
Then the earth started shaking and Elena rolled down.
The road that led to the open field cracked open and Elena’s feet got stuck in one of the cracks.
“Ha, damn it!” she cursed and she pulled her leg, but she couldn’t verplaats it. The crack grew bigger and soon she fell in a whole. A deep one.
She looked up and saw how the crack slowly closed again.
“Elena”
Elena grabbed the uithangbord which was raw and cut her hands open, but she didn’t care. With a fierce determination she climbed up and out of the crack. She crawled away from the crack, dodged the other cracks and reached the open field.
