Vampire Diaries Season 6: Damon and Elena's "Bad, But Beautiful" Journey Back To Each Other

The Vampire Diaries is going to be an exercise in heartbreak for Delena fans. With Damon (Ian Somerhalder) trapped in some existential plane and Elena (Nina Dobrev) believing him dead, we doubt these two are going to get their happy ending any time soon. But, as tough as Delena’s journey back to one another will be to watch, it will also be “beautiful,” said TVD executive producer Julie Plec.

"Damon and Elena are obviously not together at the moment. Because he\'s not with us. But I think what\'s beautiful is they are together spiritually, because she is missing him so deeply, and he is dying to get back to her so profoundly,” Julie told E! Online. “So even though they\'re not physically with each other, that\'s what each of them wants so badly. And so, so much of the first part of the season is trying to draw them back together and then all the the things that get in their way and it\'s bad. It\'s bad but it\'s beautiful. Happy tears. Sad tears… Longing for each other and longing is just as beautiful as being together in a lot of ways."

So, just another exercise in delicious misery from the master of making us cry about fictional characters Julie Plec? Sign us up! But seriously. As hard as it can be to watch TVD when things are going poorly for our favorite characters, TVD usually makes it worth it in the end with the good things. Or, if they don’t, at least it makes for good TV.
