\'s creator Robert Kirkman has said that the comic book series\' ending has changed from how he originally envisioned it - in a big way.

Although many are curious about what fate\'s in store for Rick Grimes and his company, the author revealed that it could have ended A LOT sooner.

Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, Kirkman said: "The end has changed. There was one version that would have had it ending as soon as everybody reached Alexandria."

The series has so far had 157 issues published, though Rick\'s company reached Alexandria back in issue #67, released in 2009.

However, Kirkman recently said that the ending would not happen for "a long, LOOOOOONG time", so we should be in the clear... for now.

Star Andrew Lincoln said of a prospective ending: "The comic book\'s still going, and Scott Gimple said that maybe there was an opportunity to finish the comic book and finish the TV series at the same time, which would be kind of cool."

Kirkman also said of the upcoming seventh series: "As we move through the storyline, we\'ll be bringing some characters up sooner and some characters up later.

"But there will definitely be other characters [from the comic] this season... and some surprises coming."
