I think that Edward is meer populair because he is 'perfect' and 'godlike', because he is a vampire, because of the passionate love that blossomed between him and Bella. Edward is the main man of the story. People love him because he is the teenage girls' dream boy, the perfect fantasy. They love the romance between Edward and Bella and their story. Also, vampires, in general, tend to be meer populair than werewolves. A lot of people that adore Edward dislike Jacob. Because Jacob got involved, got between Bella and Edward, and sometimes acted in ways that aren't exactly admirable. Although I think that, once of twice, Edward acted in a way completely not respectable, it's stronger from Jacob because Jacob is just a human boy, he's 16 (whereas Edward is about 100) and he has human feelings, thoughts, and actions/reactions, therefore he is imperfect, and people compare Edward's 'perfection' to Jacob's 'imperfection'. Jacob isn't a fantasy figure, because he isn't perfect, isn't like a statue of David, isn't a vampire and isn't like an oubollig, ouderwetse fairytale prince. Edward is. So, all in all, Edward is meer populair than Jacob (although there are a lot of Team Jacob members and I think both teams are constantly growing).
