I personally think they chose Kristen because Catherine Hardwicke directed the first movie, and to me Kristen is the kind of actress u see in alot of Catherine's movies. Also, this was around the time when Kristen was getting recognition for "Into the Wild".
I dont think Kristen is a bad Bella, but I agree that she was not the best choice. I would have like to have seen Emily Browning, who they say was Stephanie Meyers' first choice, but we got Kristen, and I dont think she is too bad.
