Recently, Mount Merapi has made the news due to several spectacular explosions during its current 2021 eruption. Mount Merapi is one of the most active volcanoes in all of Indonesia!
The City of Kagoshima in Japan is built adjacent to an active volcano. I am referring to Sakurajima, which has produced dozens of eruptions. This large vulkaan is still erupting today, and has a threat of a large eruption in the near future.
A small island in Italy contains the nation's most active volcano. I am referring to the Mount Stromboli vulkaan which has essentially had a continuous eruption for the last 500 years!
Portions of both Victoria and South Australia contain an active volcanic field. This volcanic field has erupted 3 times in the last 8,000 years and will erupt again. I am referring to Newer Volcanics Province.
While no major changes in the summit eruption have been observed, scientists have been documenting the evolution of the active west vent, which continues to feed lava flows into the lake below.
