What sort of relationship did Anna and Marnie have?

The film tried to make Anna and Marnie's relationship be a friendship/family thing, but it felt like a romantic relationship. Anna was jealous when Marnie danced with a guy. They were affectionate with each other, including holding hands and saying they love each other.

Marnie was Anna's Grandmother. Anna was jealous when Marnie danced with Kazuhiko because she felt left out and that Kazuhiko was stealing Marnie from her. When they say they loved each other, they meant it friendship wise, and the romantic feeling was probably that Anna felt so close and attached to Marnie she never wanted to let her go.
