A genre u will see sorely lacking in this lijst are first person shooters. I never was big into the whole FPS genre. I played Half-Life 2, didn’t care for it. I played Battlefield 3 and absolutely despised it. And my brother buys every Call of Duty game made and I just try to ignore it. But back in the day, when I was a young child, and I had the OG Xbox, one FPS genre that captured mine and everyone’s attention was Halo: Combat Evolved. But we’re not talking about that one yet. We’re talking about Halo 2
Despite having heard of Halo, I only got around to playing the seconde game at this point in my life… And I loved it. Granted, I had no idea what was going on in this game, cause I was used to game sequels that never were follow ups to past games, because Nintendo kid. But Halo 2 actually following up on the plot of the vorige game was surprising to me. Anyway, Halo 2 follows everyone’s favoriete faceless fucker, Master Chief, as he goes on a mission to try again in stopping the Covenant from invading and killing humans, but now, there is another playable character in the story, The Arbiter, who has his own job of helping the Covenant on side missions like killing rebelling aliens and getting involved with The Flood, the worst thing of my entire childhood. I hate these things and u should too. And despite having Master Chief on the cover, I found The Arbiter’s missions to be meer fun. Maybe I loved throwing myself into the malformed pus-filled Flood hellholes meer than I let on.
This game, being my first, was also one of the meer fun FPS games I played for the assortment of enemy designs from Elites, Grunts, and Hunters. Hell, I have a Hunter figure on my bureau and it’s massive! Halo 2 introduced me to figure collecting, so thanks for making me burn through my paycheck in a week, Halo 2. Not just enemy designs, but weapon designs, and not just style. Each weapon feels different and has pros and cons to using them. Same goes for the alien weapons. And when u find an Energy Sword, all u can think of is how much fun you’ll have with that… Until it runs out and u are left holding a useless stick which is as effective as holding your dick in your hand. Truly the worst feeling for anyone who played these games.
But, the best memory I’ve had of Halo 2, out of any other memory in this game was the multiplayer. I can’t even begin to tell u how many hours me and my brothers spent just going from map to map, screwing around and trying to get the most kills in these games. From massive maps like the windmill and the city to that stupid map with the giant jumping glitch that we would always attempt to do. There were many laughs, many tears, many insults which almost lead to fights breaking out. Good times, let me tell you.
I don’t know how well Halo 2 is now compared to other FPS games today. I mean, when u remember that Halo 4 and 5 exists, I’m sure it holds up as a Halo game. I have not played Halo 2 in years, but I’d really love to go back into it and experience it again and see what it was like. Hell, at least it had some dignity in a genre that was ready to get filled to the brim with FPS games before it had to go and make Halo 5, am I right?
