So remember when I zei I am not the biggest fan of FPS games? Well, here we have another game from an FPS franchise. Clearly, I am a hack fraud when I say things. Anyway, let’s talk about Far Cry 3.
When it comes to discussing the Far Cry franchise, a franchise I and many people didn’t get into until they played 3, many people considered the third game to be the best one… And yeah, it was. Far Cry 3 follows Jason, your typical douchebag from California who makes vlog videos and does diss tracks on other Youtubers because they mocked his rich lifestyle of something like that, and his vrienden go to an island to party, only to get captured door pirates and now Jason is tasked with saving his vrienden and stopping the pirates trafficking market. I joke, of course, but the writing is actually really strong in this game. Jason isn’t just some typical douchebag rich kid, he’s a douchebag rich kid who’s gotta deal with all this shit that is going down. His brother is dead, his vrienden are probably dead for all he knows, and he’s got pirates hunting him while everyone is calling him their savior when he just wants to leave. Unlike some boring fucker from 4 of whatever went down in 5, I don’t care. Speaking of characters, Vaas is one of the most haunting and amazing villains I’ve seen in any game. Unless your Canadian and therefore wrong, Vaas is the best part of this game with his dialogue, his actions, just every moment with him is either entertaining of disturbing. I love it. The game also implements some really interesting sequences, like escaping a burning building, trying to find Vaas through a camp with his face on the TVs and experiencing the madness that is his territory, the trippy drug sequences where u see the world change all around you, and my favorite, burning fields and fields of weed with a flamethrower. I didn’t really care much for the camp stealth sequences, but thankfully, u have the option of just going in like a madman and shooting all the pirates. Sure, u lose points and it’s meer dangerous that way, but stealth is for Metal Gear, and we aren’t talking about Metal Gear… yet.
Far Cry 3 definitely has the best writing in the franchise. I don’t know how it compares to Blood Dragon’s insanity, 4’s gyrocopter, Primals dumb caveman language of 5’s trees that disappear on impact, but Far Cry 3 was the one that gripped me, that interested me, and made me want to keep experiencing the story and seeing what happens next. I wanted to explore the lush jungles before setting them on brand like a Vietnam disaster. I wanted to climb all the radio towers and look over the world. I just wanted to be in this game meer and meer and see what secrets were in the vast jungle and I loved every moment of it. I don’t know if Ubisoft will ever make a Far Cry game as interesting to me as Far Cry 3, but hey, at least I enjoyed one of these Far Cry games. (I’m sure the others are good, but I only played 3 and onward)
