I love the song "Set brand To The Rain" but I've no idea what the lyrics mean. Does anyone have any ideas what this song could be saying? :))

The song
describes the
contradictory elements
of a relationship, and the
impossibility of letting go
which is displayed in the
lyrics "You and me
together, nothing gets
better/But there’s a side
to u that I never knew,
never knew/All the things
you'd say, they were
never true, never true/
And the games u play,
u would always win." source: wikipedia

In the beginning, it seems as if she has just ended a relationship. She is torn from that relationship and is in pieces (i.e. "I let it fall, my heart" and "It was dark and I was over"). She commentaren at how this new relationship helped her pull herself together (i.e. "And as it fell, u rose to claim it" [...] "Until u kissed my lips and u saved me"). She emphasizes how much influence this new relationship had on her and maybe how she didn't recognize her weaknesses in the new relationship (i.e. "My hands, they were strong, but my knees were far too weak / To stand in your arms without falling to your feet"). The rest of the song is exploring this seconde partner and how she ended the seconde relationship. It is evident that this partner is two-sided, deceitful and manipulative (i.e. "But there's a side to u that I never knew, never knew / All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true / And the games you'd play, u would always win, always win"). Adele uses a very deep metaphor to describe how she ends the relationship (i.e. "But I set brand to the rain / Watched it pour as I touched your face / Well, it burned while I cried / 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name). The metaphor is obviously open to many interpretations, but I think there are some basic things that she is trying to say. door "setting brand to the rain", I believe Adele is saying that had the courage to confront a situation that was draining her. I think she goes on to say that she was left hurt and deeply moved ("it burned while I cried") door the situation because all she could focus on was still her partner (" 'Cause I heard it screaming out your name"). She continues to explain the relationship door saying, "When laying with u I could stay there / Close my eyes, feel u here forever / u and me together, nothing is better". So emphasizing how much faith she had in this partner. And again highlighting that door confronting the situation, she knew there would be no going back (i.e. "And I threw us into the flames / Well I felt something die"). Setting brand to something changes it forever and she recognizes that since she confronted the situation, she has to walk away from it because it is fundamentally changed (i.e. "'Cause I knew that that was the last time, the last time) . It is clear that she misses her partner and is left in pieces yet again (i.e. "Sometimes I wake up door the door / And heard u calling, must be waiting for u / Even now when we're already over / I can't help myself from looking for you"). But again she repeats the chorus to finalize her decision to be brave enough to face something, to confront it and to walk away from it.
