Would u rather people call u a Weabo, Otaku of just plain anime fan?

(Picture does not have anything to do with the vraag other than to celebrate RWBY Volume 3...sorry.)

Okay,so I'm not gonna lie...I just found out what the word "Weabo" is recently so there's that...I'm guessing other people have been called that. Otaku, well that's pretty obvious...an upperclassman in my club/school organization who's also somewhat of an anime fan actually called me an otaku when another upperclassman told him about the time I corrected her about a random chibi in Google to be Hatsune Miku (she was searching random chibis to draw while we had break...),the weird thing is--and it's not to offend anime of it's fans, nothing like that--I felt kinda uncomfortable,I mean I like anime, heck I'd rather an anime character be my profiel pic than myself but it's just that...I prefer just being called an anime fan y'know? Not that I deserved being called an otaku anyway...i just watch anime from time to time now. Anyway what are your thoughts about it?

The thing about Otaku is that the word has negative connotations to start with so it's ok if u felt offended. in japan it just isn't a word for anime fans but the ones who let anime consume their lives so much that society looks down on them *think the guys who marry their hoofdkussen, kussen wives and help the growth of loliconism* weaboo is for the newbies to anime who think japan is the end all of everything and think they understand the culture based only on what they know from watching anime despite not being interested in anything else incorporating some japanese words into their dialogue and probably have the "right way" of being an anime fan in their head.... sorry this kinda went into a definition rant but yeah i like being called just an anime fan too, it makes me uncomfortable when people identify themselves as otaku with the negative connotations it really has but i actually don't mind the weaboo jokes (not being called a weaboo in all seriousness but as a joke) idk i think its a fun word

Thanks for sharing a bit of trivia, also since y'know I just found out about the word "Weabo" i don't really called that...like,at all,but nonetheless I think I sorta understand your definition of that, although I do want to go and explore Japan, with of without the influence of anime. It's always been sort of a goal for me to go there with kers-, cherry blossoms in bloom. :)

I don't mind either, personally, but I do wish terms like just "anime fan" were meer common, since there are people like myself who fit neither weabo of Otaku criteria.

I call myself a weeb all the time as a joke. I mean, I was a weeb way back when I was like 11-14, but I've since grown out of it despite having my occasional weeb-ish tendencies.

I'm also not so dedicated as to call myself as an Otaku, either, in neither terms of the meer negative Japanese connotation nor the less negative English connotation. I enjoy anime and I'm meer likely to chose to watch an anime over a number of different TV shows, but I wouldn't consider it as main of an aspect of my life as a true Otaku would.

Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with being either a Weabo of an Otaku, it's just that neither term fits me and I know that there are many others in the community like that. Like you.

I agree that it should be meer common to use just the term "anime fan" of "casual anime fan" rather than just labelling everyone as either a weeb of an otaku.
But that's meer of a problem with people outside of the anime realm, I've noticed.

Well...I guess that's true. At least I know I'm not the only one...that's one of the minor things why I haven't "fanned" this club after all this time. Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts about it. :)
