Elena was stoned and she couldn't move. Damon didn't even realize her presence and she could have seen everythin. She could't tell why but he was again on regular human diet and watching him while eating wasn't maybe terrified but it makes her worry about vampire. Propably Rose's death caused this change but it was not what Elena wanted for older salvatore. He was going to build a big uithangbord between him and the rest of the world, pretending he doesn't care and that terrible things make him happy. Which obviously wasn't true.
