Guidelines:
-Vote the character you think is least likely to be ing the lineup or just don’t want to be in the lineup at all
-If there are any ties I will add comments to the votes (I hate having to deal with tiebreakers)
-Please comment! I want to make an article for the top ten
-Please don’t pick a heroine just because she’s not a princess. You can have that be a reason, please just don’t make it your only one. Disney wouldn’t just say no to a heroine being in the lineup just because she’s not a princess, there’d be other reasons
-Please do not call Esmerelda the g word. It’s a slur and just because her movie said it doesn’t mean it’s okay to use that word

10. Alice
9. Eilonwy
8. Giselle
7. Kida
6. ?

^Couldn't agree more.

Same as before. Not a princess material + her movie is way too dark and mature.

She's a great character but she's not like the rest of the princesses at all. Even her voice actress says this. Not to mention her animation style makes her stand out.

As I said before, I´ve never liked her that much. She was a bit insensitive. Also her movie is too dark.

it's okay to use the "not a princess" reason as long as it's not the only reason otherwise Mulan and maybe Pocahontas wouldn't even be in the lineup

I hate voting for her, but by process of elimination... I love her movie but it's extremely dark with mostly adult themes and doesn't really fit next to the others in the lineup. Plus I think as a character she generally appeals more to an older audience rather than young kids.

I'm seeing a lot of misconceptions about Esmeralda here, some of which borders on outright racism, so I would like to correct this.

@gitanita - Esmeralda is not a thief. This is outright racism here. The Romani people to this day suffer from persecution and stereotype because people label them as thieves. I implore you to watch the original movie again before you disrespect Esmeralda and the Romani people. She never once steals in the movie, nor does any other Romani character in the film. In fact, her introduction to the film has her dancing because this is her only way of making a livelihood (and she basically tells Quasimodo that this isn't something she likes to do but is forced to do because Romani people had no other options and this is still better than prostituting oneself. Some people have called Esmeralda a prostitute or stripper, but she was NONE of these things). Some European Parisians walk by and the child takes interest in Esmeralda and the fellow Romani people dancing, but the mother scolds the child and labels them all thieves. So you have fallen in the trap of racism like this ignorant European mother in the film. Also I find it odd that you call her a "gitanita like me" implying that you are also Romani in heritage (from Spain). Are you suggesting then that you are a thief? Because by your ignorant logic, all Romani people are thieves, so that would make you one as well.

It's an interesting double standard that actual thieves like Aladdin and Flynn are hailed as heroes but one who is not a thief at all (Esmeralda) is branded one because of her Romani heritage. I wonder if people would be as accepting of Flynn if he was still Romani like he was in earlier drafts of Tangled. Look up concept art of him and you'll see for yourself.

@disnerdtobe - Esmeralda can be argued to be a princess in this respect. Clopin is the King of the Gypsies (excuse my use of the word but this is how he was referred to in the book and film adaptations) and in some Hunchback adaptations, Esmeralda is considered his adopted daughter of sorts. This makes her the princess of the "Gypsies." The word gypsy is considered a slur because it implies that the Romani people came from Egypt which is incorrect (most descend from North India which might also explain why Esmeralda has a strong resemblance to Indian women although some see her as looking more like a Latina woman). Hence why gypsy sounds like Egypt because Europeans considered the Romani to be Egyptian. In prior Hollywood Hunchback films (many of which Disney's film is based off of more than the original book) Phoebus wants to win the French court's approval of Esmeralda so he declares to them that she is a princess of Egypt. She comes wearing medieval nobility clothes and everyone thinks she is a foreign princess especially with her great beauty. This is not too far off from how Pocahontas was treated in English court.

@Disneyotaku - the "g word" as you put it has a long history of hatred pointed towards the Romani people. I recommend reading my above post directed to disnerdtobe to understand a bit more of its history. As BB2010 pointed out, it is a SLUR. The "g word" being bad is not an opinion but an outright fact and BB2010 has included multiple examples of similar words which should put the meaning of the "g word" in context because most people understand better how disgusting and terrible the "n word" and "f word" are for black people and gay people respectively.

I am glad I was alerted of this racism. I am shocked that Disney fans of all people could be this bad but colorism exists everywhere so maybe I am not too shocked. Either way I am here to defend Esmeralda against all the racism directed towards her so everyone better keep their words under check. It's shocking what I am reading. Anyway I pick Jane just because Esmeralda is more in common with Disney Princesses imo. I think she is being targeted for her race and the proof is in the comments on all these threads. Wish I had been alerted earlier to say something sooner.

How is her red dress being provocative and inappropriate? Surely you ain't that type of Christian that thinks red is the color of the devil and evil and against lipstick that is red. Then you need to remove Snow White, Aurora, Ariel because they both born with red coloring. Hair if not lips. Her dress is more modest than Belle's which is off the shoulder or Elsa's with the slit dress but I ain't see you voting out snow white Elsa. Hmm what's the difference then between Elsa and Esmeralda dress except for the color of the skin of the wearer of the dress. Because Elsa's dress is way more skintight and revealing. Not that I am demonizing any of these clothes or what women wear but if you gonna do that, make sure to do it to all and not just the non-white women. Pole dancing back then is not what pole dancing is today plus it ain't a pole but a spear.

So because you hear people say something about a red dress you automatically believe this to be so. What kind of thinking is that? I could say that Aurora's blue dress is really some type of metaphor for sloth, a seven deadly sin and you will be believing this? Please think for yourself here.
