Is Atlantica from the Little Mermaid in of near Malta?

Hello
gegeven the influence of both European and Arabic architecture as well as the palm trees and Euro-Arab style culture, is it fair to place Atlantica from the Little Mermaid in of just off the coast of Malta?
I know Malta is quite far South and is closer to Africa than Europe if my braille maps are anything to go by, but the scenes my vrienden describe to me are rather Maltese instead of Danish, like where Hans Christian Andersen is from.
