i am amused by the reactions though...i love how this discussion has probably generated more interest than anything in the past couple of months!? i hope the f4 do something odd again soon like allowing people to change their username for 3 days and then going HAR HAR JOKE!!! and then everything goes back to the way it was.

I think all the "GIF icons make me dizzy", "They're nauseating/seizure-inducing", etc comments are ridiculous.

^^Um and what happens when you want to read the comment of the person with the annoying flashing gif icon? Kinda hard to avoid it when it's right next to what you're trying to read. And the truth is there are people who are susceptible to epileptic seizures that can be caused by flashing- so comments complaining about that are not 'ridiculous'.

I'm not denying it^ but I have never heard of anyone getting seizures because of userpics.

Anyway, if there really are such cases, I don't believe that such small userpics can cause such distress.

If it's a huge GIF, like 500x300 pix, I would understand. Not some icon which is less than 100x100 pix and is smaller than my thumb.

Maybe not but still, there's the possibility. I have certainly seen some extremely obnoxious gifs that looked like they could give someone a seizure. And yes, just so you know, looking at them does give me a headache. I'm not exaggerating- it strains my eyes and I get a headache. It also gives me a feeling of vertigo. I don't know why but it's very unpleasant.

Nah. I'm not hating on anyone. I just find this whole issue (GIF icons make me sick!) somewhat amusing.

And yeah, I'm aware that there is no use arguing/complaining/insisting that Fanpop gives us the choice to use GIF icons. It's a case of link.

Well, the gifs I used weren't obnoxious ones, so too bad they're gone. I really wanted to use my Mark Zuckerberg "I invented poking" gif :/

Aside from the fact that it was annoying, with so many people using them, it started to slow down my computer a fair bit, which I do not appreciate.

Btw Fanpop isn't the only social networking site on the internet. There are other sites that support gifs. It's cute how people act like it's the end of the world.

I still hadn't decided if I had liked them or not and now they're gone
